The dreaded question - circumcision.
So I posted this question on a UK-based pregnancy forum and it turned into the debate of the century and NOT in a good way. Women were at each other's throats!!! It's not common in Europe at all and some women saw it as a brutal and barbaric procedure. That being said... For you ladies who have had boys or are expecting a boy, what was/is your decision?? TIA!!!

Re: The dreaded question - circumcision.
First, Ill admit Ive never looked up information or the science behind circumcision but for me it's an easy decision...first off, I'm Jewish (although my husband is not) so by tradition, I would circumcise and secondly, from the little I know, it has many health benefits over not being circumcised. So, yes, we would definitely circumcise if it was a boy.

Re: The dreaded question - circumcision.
We had it done for DS. DH is and I pretty much gave him the final decision since he has more experience with that department. We never had any regrets about doing it.

Re: The dreaded question - circumcision.
DS was circumsized and if this is a boy he will be too.
I was actually crying when they were wheeling him out thinking of the pain and I was getting upset about it. They wheeled him back in 15 minutes later and he was sleeping. It was so quick, he was fine and there were no problems.

Definitley doing it for sanitary reasons. They cry a bit then forget. Better then them getting a pee pee rash and crying later.

It had never crossed my mind either!!! Until my OB asked if we were doing it and I said YES and he said to just do some research but would be happy to do whatever we decided. So this made me curious and I did some research then decided to post about it. All hell broke loose! Lol. DH is and was insisting on it, til I burst into tears saying I was petrified of hurting my baby... I think the UK girls scared the you know what out of me.

Re: The dreaded question - circumcision.
I'm having a DD but if we were having a son, I would have him circumcised.
I just wanted to say that there was a long article on circumcision in the april american baby magazine. It was 3-4 pages long, gave lots of statistics and discussed all of the benefits and all of the risks. Wanted to recommend it to you- most libraries carry them if you don't get your own copy.

Re: The dreaded question - circumcision.
We will be circumcising our DS. I'm just scared because I'm reading all these stories where parents had to get the circumcision re-done since it wasn't done correctly in the first place. Does the pediatrician do this?

I had it done for my ds and will again if this one is a boy. No problems and he was completely fine. The OB does it - not the ped. My ped. did check it at visits though.

It's not always bec it wasn't done correctly. Sometimes the parents don't take care of it properly afterwards and it could reattach and then would have to be done again. Just make sure you follow the aftercare instructions that they give you and he should be fine.

Re: The dreaded question - circumcision.
I had mixed emotions on this ~ the thought of what the procedure really was when we had my DS made me not want to do it for him but my hubby was adamant on having it done and we had it done for my ds.

Re: The dreaded question - circumcision.
We are and we are undecided at this point. I think DH & I need to sit down w/some material and read the pros & cons. I told DH that after we read & discuss if he feels strongly either way, I am willing to follow his lead since he has better knowledge of the matter.

Re: The dreaded question - circumcision.
We circ ds#1 at the hospital by my ob but I want ds#2 to be circ by a urologist this time around. It's no one's business what personal decisions you make for your child. Tell those women to shove it.

Re: The dreaded question - circumcision.
I'm having a , but if it was a , we were not going to circumcise. DH felt very strongly about it and since I am not BF'ing (and he wanted me to), he felt he should get to make this decision. It's a nonissue this time around, but if/when #2 comes around and it is a boy, we still will not circumcise.
I agree that it's a very personal decision and you should do your research about the risks/benefits -- there are both no matter which you choose!

Re: The dreaded question - circumcision.
I did not circumcise my DS. We are still thinking about it but I have to say if you are on the fence decide before you leave the hospital.
Since we did not do it in the hospital we have to have it done by a Ped Urologist and DS has to be put under.
We have put it off until he is 10 mons because I do not really want to put him under.
