Those who used the binky fairy to get rid of the binky

How did you explain in to your dc. My dd just turned 2 and I really want to take the binky away. How did you work the whole binky fairy? Did they leave your child a new toy, did your child help pack up the binkys? Did it work, how did your child act when they realized the binkys were really gone?

I did this with my DD a few months ago. I didn't really have her "participate" in the binky fairy, I just kinda told her one day that the binky fairy was coming and taking all of her binkies for the new babies that were just born to use. She was whiney about it for a day or so, but has since talked about the binky fairy, asked about the new babies and when we were reading a book about fairies and princesses the other night she actually said PACI FAIRY as if she remembered and the ones in the book were the ones that took them to the babies Chat Icon

ETA My DD is 22 months.

Re: Those who used the binky fairy to get rid of the binky

It went beautifully. I was shocked that it worked! We did not use the fairy but Elmo and Baby David showed up when DS was not home, left toys and notes, made a mess in the house and there were pieces of Elmo's red fur left in places where Elmo had walked. It was red crumbled confetti. DS was so hooked on the binky. Then he did not ask for the binky and then within the next few days he asked a lot of questions about how Elmo got to our house, where he went next and whether Baby David (Elmo's friend) was using the pacifiers. The tracks that Elmo left behind turned out to be more important than the gifts and there was also the fact that Baby David, who my son knew about from our books, needed the pacifiers.

Re: Those who used the binky fairy to get rid of the binky

we talked about it for weeks prepping him. We (him and i) put all the binkies in a brown envelope and addressed them to the binky fairy. Then he walked out to the mail box and put it in. After his nap, he woke up to a present being under his crib.

That was it. No problems at all. But again, we talked about it for weeks, built up how the new babies needed the binkies and the big gift he might get as a special thank you.

Re: Those who used the binky fairy to get rid of the binky

We talked about it for a couple of weeks. My DD was about 2.5. She had already been weaned from the paci to the point where she was only allowed to have it at bedtime anyway. I told her the Binky Fairy was going to come and leave her a present for the binkies. I had one of my friends from work call her and say she was the Binky Fairy, and ask what toy she wanted in place of the binkies (she chose finger paints). We packed them all up in her Nighttime Binky Box (that we'd been using already) and left it outside the front door. She did go to sleep that night without one. The next morning the finger paints were there and she was ecstatic! But that was short-lived. That night all she did was cry for her binky. I explained that we gave them to the Fairy, and she had the finger paints now. She told me I can give the finger paints back...she wanted her binky. It broke my heart. But it only lasted about 2 nights and then it was done.

You have to get the Binky Fairy by Thumbuddy To Love. It is adorable! It works and you can get it on Amazon or Thumbuddy To Love's web site...just google it.
