Spinoff to blanket q - when did you give your LO a lovey?

Just curious.

We haven't given DD one yet - she's almost 8 months.

I don't plan on giving her one either. How would I know if she "needed" one?

We gave DS a lovey around 4 months, but he showed no interest until about 6/7 months. Now he loves it (18 months). It is one of those little blankets with the stuffed animal head.

I had no idea why DS would need one either until just before he turned 1. He had been through a string of viruses, teething, etc and I had gotten him into the habit of rocking him to sleep to the point where he'd never fall asleep on his own. So I introduced a lovey then, asmall stuffed animal, and that with some sleep training did the trick. At 2yrs7mths he still sleeps with it. If that hadn't happened I don't see why he would have needed it. I think they are useful in situations where you need to comfort the child for some reason.

In the NICU and continued encouraging one (we had a variety of types) until he fell in love with his Silly Buddy from Bunnies By the Bay. That was around 8 months though he used other lovies before settling on Silly Buddy. I'm a big believer in having some kind of object that they find comfort in.

We gave DD angel dear lovies when she was 4 months and we moved her into her crib. She now has 7 and squeals in delight everytime she sees them.

I will add that both my husband and I still sleep with our lovies at 30 plus years old. Not related, just felt I needed to confess that. Chat Icon

She has had one since about 4 months. She was given one to use at daycare, and loved it, so I tried it at home, as we had been given several as gifts. It helps her soothe, as she rubs it against her face. She actually uses it less now at 7 months, but I think that's because she's a pacifier fiend.

My DS loves to hold onto something. When he falls asleep on me he tries to hold onto my shirt which half the time ends up being my skin! So I gave him one of those small blankets with the stuffed animal head on it around 3.5 months.

Dd has the wubbanub since she was like a month old or so... I think she treats that like a lovey. Don't know what I'm gonna do when we take away the bink lol

Around 2 months old. He is almost 2.5 now and he loves his lovey!!! I remember that once he got attached to it, I ran out and bought everyone I found in the store as back up's - lol.

We keep one in both cars as well since we don't let him take the one he sleeps with outside.

Re: Spinoff to blanket q - when did you give your LO a lovey?

I never gave DD1 one. She just took it upon herself to fall inlove with a small afghan we had (she was about 5 months old) lol. My mom has since made a few more for her and at 2.5 she still NEEDS them. It has made life so easy though bc all she needs is that blankie when she's upset or tired.

I've been trying to force one on DD2 (8 months) but she basically laughs at me. So I rock her more than I ever had to rock my first daughter. Chat Icon Chat Icon
