5 month old not STTN
I'm hoping u ladies can give me some insight. DD has been a great sleeper but for the past few weeks has started to wake at night crying and refusing her paci. I nurse her back to sleep, which takes 5 minutes. Should I try CIO? she's clearly just using my boob to soothe herself. I should note that she is BF before bed and last night i gave her a bottle to test whether she was waking because she was hungry after bf..well she woke up twice anyway!

Re: 5 month old not STTN
5 mo old is still really young to sleep through the night AND CIO --- IMO!
2 of my kids it took til 6 months...but them depending on teething my 14 mo old still has week long stretches of not STTN!
If you had it for sometime already - consider yourself lucky...it will come and go! It could be teeth or if could be a few off nights!
If your LO goes back with nursing pretty quickly - I would be pretty happy with that!
good luck!

I know i'm in the minority but i think you can try CIO (to a point) at that age.
At DS's 4 month appointment, the ped told us that if he starts waking up more at night, it might mean he's ready for solids. Maybe your DD is ready for that?

Re: 5 month old not STTN
Thanks ladies! We've started cereal and fruit already. She does drool a lot so I thought it might be teething. I guess I'll keep riding it out, it's been about a month of this now.

5 month old not STTN
My DD is almost five months and has been waking up more during the night recently as well. Sometimes she'll fall back to sleep on her own after a minute or two of crying, and if not I nurse her and she usually goes right back to sleep within seconds. So I figure it's probably more that she wants the comfort rather than being hungry itherwise she'd nurse for longer. It's frustrating getting woken up several times during the night but I'm hoping it's just a phase. Like your daughter, she had been doing really well sleeping 8 hours or so. Now she has some good nights and some bad nights. Her dr said its fine to let her CIO but I've tried and she gets so worked up that she ends up crying for hours even with me trying to console her. So now I just give in and nurse her so we can both get some sleep.

Yes!
DS is 11 months and he just started STTN more consistently lately. He'd do it occasionally and then stop.

Re: 5 month old not STTN
dd is 5 months. she is also not STTN. it got better around 4.5 months but the past 2 weeks we are up multiple times at night. i think its more her teeth and her intake is less (she is bottle fed) so maybe she's hungry. i have to work so i usually give in and feed her. i think she is still too young to CIO IMO. i figure it will eventually get better.

Re: 5 month old not STTN
I heard sucking makes teething hurt more. So maybe that's why she's refusing her paci. My DD is also 5 months, and ped said she is def teething bc her gums are swollen. She has always been a great sleeper, but we are also having episodes in the middle of the night now. Gl

Re: 5 month old not STTN
DS is almost 5 months and not anywhere close to STTN. I don't know if I'd do full on CIO yet, but you can definitely try the Ferber method (I think you can start that at 4-6 months). I did it at 4 months on the dot but it only got him from waking 6+ times a night to waking 3 times a night And same thing...he is not hungry, just using me as a human pacifier.
