Inviting Pre school class to my son's birthday question

My DS will be turning 3 at the end of September and I was thinking about having his party on Saturday, 10/5.

My question is this... he will be starting pre school mid September - is it weird/too soon to invite kids from his class? Do I invite all of them? Will the parents be like - umm I have no idea who you are why are you inviting my child to your son's party?

I would have to give the invitations out pretty soon after school starts to give them enough time to see if they can come...

What do you think I should do?

I did this exact thing last year - my son's 3rd birthday was end of September - i handed out invites only 2 weeks before the party on the first day of class, but i wanted to meet other parents. We had a bunch of the kids from his class came

one thing i did was print my own invites with my son's picture on it - to help the parents and kids place him

We've only been invited to one party this year out of all of DS classmates in nursery school.

Didn't end up going because Sandy happened.

When DS bday rolled around, I only decided to have friends and family. Call me cheap, but I didn't want to pay $15 a head for people I barely knew.

I had this same exact scenario, down to the date bc DS' party was Oct 6th and he was turning 3.

I posted about this very thing and ultimately decided to hand out invites to the whole class (7 other kids). The party was held in our backyard. Only 1 child came. RSVP's were really late and 1 didn't rsvp at all. I was pretty bummed. Luckily we had 11 other kids come who were not from the class.

In the future I wouldn't do that again. As they get older it gets easier bc they start having their own friends. Just my take on it.

DS's birthday is September 22nd and pre school started on September 12th. I sent invitations in on the 13th. About 6 kids came from his class and they were all so excited I decided to invite them. It was a good way to meet new parents from his class.
