WWYD - meds
Lilly has been on phenobarbital to control her seizures. She was originally on 2 16.2 pills a day, but that dose seemed to be too much for her, so with the our guidance, we dropped it down to 1 pill a day.
She's had a few major seizures in the past few months, despite being on the meds to control them - they're called breakthrough seizures. She had another one yesterday afternoon. DH brought her to the vet, and she gave us 2 options. 1 - start her back on the 2 pills a day. When she was on the 2 pills, she was a lunatic - racing around the house, barking up a storm, eating uncontrollably. We think that this was because it was a big dose right away, but now that she's been on the 1 pill for quite a few months that introducing a second pill would be better this time around. Option 2 - a liquid medicine that would have to be given 3x a day every day. It has less side effects on the liver and is overall a better anti-convulsant, but costs $300 for a 2-month supply. The meds she's curently on is $11 for 3 months.
We're leaning towards option 1 and seeing how that works for a few months. Is there anything I'm missing when thinking about this?
Thanks!

I think DH had asked the vet that last night and she had said it should really be the full 32.4 dose.

Can you give your dog some xanax with the phenobarb, until she gets used to it? Thats what we did for our past dog. It mellowed him out
