Birthing classes & Hospital Tour
Hi Girls... did anyone take the birthing classes and/or hospital tour prior to giving birth? I am due to deliver @ Winthrop in early Sept. Just wondering if its worth it. Any feedback/advice would be appreciated.

Birthing classes & Hospital Tour
I took the birthing class at NSUH and the hospital tour was right after. It didn't end up helping per say because I had a C-section but I thought it was good to know what to expect either way. The tour was nice though it definitely made things feel more real / scary.

Birthing classes & Hospital Tour
I found my birthing class helpful...lets you know what to expect, what is normal, not to panic in certain situations, etc.
I didn't do a hospital tour and really don't see the point although they seem very trendy right now.

Re: Birthing classes & Hospital Tour
I heard the birthing class was a waste of time from every single person who went to that class at winthrop (about 5 different women). The hospital tour is always good. Of course, each person is different so for you it might be a great thing to do.
Personally, I won't be doing the birthing class at S. Nassau. The less information I have the better. The more information I tend to get the more anxious I get which isn't helpful for me or the baby.
The only classes I'll be taking is the infant CPR class and the hospital tour.

I took the one at Good Sam. IMO not worth it. Tour was nice but I think you could probably get a tour separately.
Birthing, they show you a bunch of videos...I could have you tubed that
did soem breathing techniques etc. I could have done it all via you tube from the comfort of my home and not spend a dime.
plus the nurses really coach you through everything.

I did the birthing classes for Winthrop through my obgyn and I am glad I did. They tell you everything you can expect and I felt it was helpful to see the hospital, rooms, monitors, etc.

Re: Birthing classes & Hospital Tour
I never took a class or did the hospital tour. I did watch a DVD called Laugh & Learn about Childbirth. I found it to be informative, long and clearly old, but helpful.

Birthing classes & Hospital Tour
We loved our Bradley Childbirth classes. Hospital class was a total waste of time.

Same with me! Everyone I k ow says they are a waste of time but especially since this was my first I wanted to take it and was glad I did. They went over everything from stages of labor to breathing techniques to c sections and breastfeeding. I found it very helpful. I was also glad we took the tour. The nurse showed you ever place you could possibly be from the time you get there til the time you leave.
