Making excuses for his behavior is so typical of LIF. He's a piece of shit, end of story, no two ways about it. I'm so sorry that happened.
I agree 100%! I'm so sorry he hurt you
Prayers for your mom and dad!

Omg my jaw just literally dropped to the floor. What a jerk. I can't even believe he said that to you. Good for you for sticking up for yourself. I hope he thinks twice next time before he insults someone else. That's so rude and uncalled for. I'm sorry.
Prayers and thoughts for your family.

I'm very sorry about what he said and I hope you end up enjoying your day. Prayers to your family.
As far as the quoted above, I honestly thought dementia when I read the OP. if you ever worked in nursing homes or with older people, you quickly realize that they can say mean and cruel things without even thinking. Even older family members can start saying things that are hurtful. It really sucks.
Not making excuses for what he said, but just shedding some light that it may not have been out of sheer cruelty.
It doesn't change how much it hurts, though..that's for sure.

Honestly, I really doubt he had dementia or an advanced case of it anyway. Like I said, I went out to his car. I can't imagine that driving a vehicle is really something that people with advanced dementia do.

Re: To the asshole at Oceanside Dunkin Donuts, I meant what I said.
I hate when people think they are being helpful when they give advice. I have gotten it all from my weight to a time when i had severely bad acne.
People should know if you have nothing nice to say, don't say it all.
I am so sorry you are going through so much.
Sending positive thoughts to your parents and you.

I'm sorry Even without the stress you're going through, that would be very hurtful. He is an a$$ and I hope the karma police were watching

I can't even wrap my brain around a complete stranger feeling so entitled to walk up to you to say anything at all about your weight, diet, etc. I mean really????
I'm glad you stood up for yourself.. he deserves to be humiliated for what he said to you.
I'm so very sorry you had to go through this at all.

Wow, I am so so sorry for you. I could cry for you because I know your pain. It sucks so much when you have no choice but to have your "flaws" in plain sight. Many, many prayers for your mother and father, and you! Be proud for standing up for yourself.

Regardless of trying to shed light, this is a stretch at best. He drove his vehicle to Dunkin Donuts. Sometimes, people are just dickss and there is no "medical" reason for it.

Re: To the asshole at Oceanside Dunkin Donuts, I meant what I said.
He was probably diabetic and hadn't eaten his donut yet
Can't believe people are so rude!!!!
I was at church last weekend and my son was having a tantrum because I wouldn't let him eat the brownies that they had out on the table afterwards. He was having a complete and utter meltdown! These women were staring at me and said "aww, come on mom. A little brownie won't hurt him!" And my reply was "Actually...it could kill him. He's allergic to nuts!" People have NO CLUE and just judge by looking at a situation without knowing ANYTHING.

Good for you! I bet he'll think twice before he decides to be a complete douche canoe to another person!
Also, my thoughts are with you and your family. I had no idea that you guys were going through so much; you always have such a positive outlook on things that it never comes across that you've got all of that resting on your shoulders. Stay strong, chica

Seriously! WTF why are people always looking to make excuses for others? You don't know him, and you weren't there. Just comment on the original post and move on, you're not helping anything.

I think there is a high likelihood that he is just a jerk. However, just like we are saying that no one knows the reasons that a particular person may be overweight because of - the fact is there are many scenarios that could contribute to his behavior as well. Again, he may just be an a-hole but there other common reasons. I am not making excuses but can sympathize because my father had a traumatic brain injury that affected his frontal lobe region. Once he was healed he could drive and function in society however he had no impulse control. Everything he thought he would say - everyone thought he was such a d!ck ( including us at times) but the octors explained that he just could not control it.
I'm not saying that this man had a similar condition but rather that it is possible and common. Imagine if everything you thought in a day was verbalized and you had no control over it...

but why do you care to say that this person MIGHT have a condition? Why cares? The bottom line is he said something unnecessary and mean, whether or not he has a condition is irrelevant to this scenario. She was upset and she said something. End of story

You're probably right. I wouldn't want to make you feel any worse. Not my intention. I would have said something to the man, too. I have encountered jerky old people myself. Sometimes it's because they are simply idiots and sometimes I think it's due to a diminishing brain.
I'm sorry this happened to you. I hope you don't let it ruin your day and I hope seeing your father lifted your spirits! I will keep him (and your mom) in my thoughts.

Well, when you post something online you subject yourself to different opinions people post all sorts of responses on LIF. If we didn't post our opinions on inane things this board would be dead.
I care because I could see my father having done something like that when he was alive. So it hits home with me. My point is you never know what is going on so you should not take it personally . Would I have approached him? Nope! People are crazy and I would never put myself in that position. I feel bad for the OP and I hope that she does not take his comments to heart.

To the asshole at Oceanside Dunkin Donuts, I meant what I said.
I don't think anyone said anything bad here. No one said the OP shouldn't be upset or said the man was right in what he said. I think people are trying to make her feel better by saying that maybe he didnt mean what he said and while his idiotic comment hurt, maybe it wasnt from a cruel place. Not diminishing how she felt at all, though. I would be hurt too (and have when old people said ****** things to me even when I knew for a fact they had dementia). It still stung.
OP is honestly one of the sweetest posters here. I don't think anyone would argue that or try to make her feel worse, KWIM?
