ladies that work in the city
is your dr close to home or close to work?
i live in jersey.. our dr is abt 20 mins from our house. my commute to work is about 30-40 minutes.... so now if i had to see my dr right away..it would take me a subway ride, bus ride and car ride .......
i really like my dr, but i'm starting to think that it doenst make sense and maybe i should have a dr close to work?

Dr. closer to home. In the end espeically if you are late you will have to go ever few days - Do you want to schlep into the city then?
Especially if you like your doctor it makes the decsision even easier IMO

close to work because all my appts are during the day. plus my hospital is in the city so she's affiliated with that hospital.

Mine was close to home. Chances are you will not need to see your dr within minutes. So I felt better with it being close to home.

Close to work. I have appts every 2 weeks since the begining. I would never be able to make them all. The hospital is a 20 min drive with no traffic from my apt. The dr is down the block from my job.

Re: ladies that work in the city
Mine was close to work because I used to live in the city, too, so I was already with this OB. I would go to my appointments during my lunch hour which was very convenient. And then I delivered at NYU, which is a top hospital. For me, I didn't want to change OBs and it was more convenient for me to see the dr this way. I would have had to leave work early or go in late every time I had a drs appointment, which would not have worked for me.
In the end, I was home alone when I went into labor. Not knowing I was actually in labor, I drove myself into the city to have a baby! Had I known I was in labor I probably would have taken a car service!

Mine was actually in the middle of both but, easier to get to from home. I never had to get there in a rush.

This. I work in the city, live in Western Nassau (South Shore) and my OB is in Great Neck/I am delivering at NS Manhasset. It's about 20 minutes drive from home, and from work it takes about half an hour with the LIRR. My appointments during the school year are after work so it's not a big deal because I'm either commuting home or to the doctor, and during the summer when I'm off I drive from home. I plan to stop working at least a week before my due date so I don't anticipate being at work when I go into labor.

My doctor is close to home and I take the LIRR to ronkonkoma so it's very far.
In the end, I wanted the hospital to be close to home so we didn't have to drive our newborn very far, and also god forbid something happened and she was there for a while we were close enough to go back and forth to hospital.
My boss is understanding and I take half days on days I have appts.

Re: ladies that work in the city
I used to live in Manahattan so my doctor was in the city, i moved to queens last year but stayed with the same docotr because i liked her and because DH and i can go to appts together without having to take time off from work. Hopefully once LO decides to make their appearance i will have enough time to get to the hospital here in the city...go with your gut and to who you like. everything works out!!

Re: ladies that work in the city
I work about 45 min away in the bronx. My dr. is 15 min away from my home but in the opposite direction, going east in Nassau.
It wouldn't make sense for me to have a doctor by work since I'll be delivering at a hospital closest to my home. If I had to leave for whatever reason I would just leave. If it was an emergency I'd still leave work and just go to LIJ since it's closer then my hospital. If it were a dire dire emergency I'd have to suck it up and go to Bronx Lebanon which is about 2 blocks away.

closer to home. Giving birth in Manhattan would have been inconvenient for us, it was much more convenient to do it on LI instead.

My dr is home. I stopped working at 38 weeks so it was easier having a dr close to home not work.

My doc is in the city. It is more convenient with appointments this way. I'm delivering in the city too. Here's to hoping there isn't a blizzard when I go into labor.

My dr is closer to work. I was 4 days late with my third and worked the day I went into labor. My commute is about 1.5-2 hours door to door. I went into labor at home at night and had a very fast labor and it wasn't a problem. Dr had said come right in, don't wait until contractions are strong. Glad i listened. But I much preferred having a dr closer to work with all three pregnancies.

Neither actually. My doctor is in Bayside because I grew up there and liked them as a GYN practice so stayed with them for OB. I live in Bethpage (just moved from Westbury a few weeks ago). I work in downtown Brooklyn. And the hospital is North Shore in Manhasset.
With DS#1 I kept an eye on my progress to determine when I'd go out on maternity leave...and there really was none. Even though I didn't deliver until 41w2d, I started leave on my actual due date just to be safe. Had about 8 days at home before DS arrived.
