Cost to convert to gas...
When there is already a gas line in the house. If the cooking line is already attached to gas, does anyone have an idea how much it would be to convert the heating over the gas too?

Re: Cost to convert to gas...
we just paid 4600 and that included adding a second zone and we already had hot water running in the house. Also we got quoted this last year and they still honored the price and my DH works for the company so i dont know if that meant a differnet price, slomins.
I also got another quoute from another company just to compare and they qutoed me over $7000

Since the gas line is already going to the house, it really shouldn't be much at all. The biggest thing that I will recommend doing is making sure that you get as much documentation about closing everything to do with the Oil tank as possible. That will make it much easier for you if/when you ever sell your house. [Especially if you have an underground oil tank.]

We had gas in the house, we were quoted $1500 - that was converting over the oil burner.

Re: Cost to convert to gas...
When we bought this house, the boiler and hot water system were a year old. We asked the plumber how much it would be to convert to gas. The newer boilers (I was told) have the capability to convert the ignitor to gas by just changing that part alone (which is approximately $500). The plumber himself charged $1,000 for his service. So $1,500 including labor and parts. It was the best decision we ever made. We had oil at our old house and the prices were insane...can't wait to see this years gas bill!

Is it possible to get the name of your plumber? We have a new boiler and hot water heater and I'm wondering if this is a possibility for us too!

its probably cause she already had gas in the house so instead of replacing the oil boiler cause it was probably newer they just bought a converter to convert the oil burner from oil to gas.

this is really cheap but did you have gas in the house already?
if someone doesnt i would assume that they price would ahve to be higher to get the gas line into the house.

Even with a new burner it shouldn't be that high - for a new burner our quotes were around $4500.

Re: Cost to convert to gas...
Gas was already in both of our neighbors homes. National Grid will run it for free the first 100 feet, which it fell into that category thankfully. If not, then I know the cost to bring it to the home is expensive since it goes by footage. The first 100 feet are free, so if a neighbor has it or its in your street, it shouldnt be that expensive (if anything) or might even be free. If you call National Grid, they will look up your address and tell you if a neighbor has it/or if it is in your street already.
I will ask my husband the plumbers name when he gets home...he is working the night shift so I may not see him until tomorrow!

Re: Cost to convert to gas...
We are paying $8500. That includes a new boiler, indirect hot water heater, abandoning an underground tank and a line for the BBQ.

Re: Cost to convert to gas...
Even if you have a gas line to the house you have to make sure it is the right size pipe. We have gas in our house too, for hot water and the stove but they used 1/2 or 3/4 inch pipe (not sure which) and the plumber said that we should have a 1 inch pipe to run the burner properly and efficiently. (2 separate plumbers told us this). We were quoted 5K from one person and 7K from another.
