Tipping at all inclusive resort

It'll be my first time at an all-inclusive. I've heard that people tip for good service but how much? Is it a few dollars at dinner or more? What about for drinks?

Staying at an small upscale, boutique resort in Mexico, if that makes a difference.

Re: Tipping at all inclusive resort

We usually go in with $100 in small bills. We leave a couple dollars for the maid daily, a couple singles here and there for drinks, and usually $5-10 at dinners if we felt the service was great.

It depends on the resort- we usually go on cruises so we'd see the same bartenders or we'd have the same waiter each night and we'd take care of them right at the start of the trip. There's one bartender we knew from a previous cruise and we tipped him right at the start and he took care of us the whole week. We even got a few free drinks which is almost unheard of on a cruise since that's how they make their money. In Jamaica they refused tips and were soooo pleasant. There was no difference in service whether we offered to tip or not, which only made us want to tip more! Chat Icon In DR, it was the complete opposite. They talked sh!t about you in Spanish while they deigned to make your drink. After tipping one particular bartender at the bar we spent most of our time at, he treated us like human beings, but I was really turned off by the attitudes in general. It honestly makes me not want to go back there, no matter how beautiful and wonderful the resort was. The was Excellence Punta Cana by the way.

I rarely go to all inclusive but when I have gone there are sign saying no tipping.

Tipping in an American thing so most other countries it is not expected or needed.

So funny the difference bc I've only been to 1 AI and it was in la romana, DR. Mostly Europeans on that side so when we tipped the bartenders there it was a HUGE deal. They all remembered us by name and catered to us a hell of a lot more than other guests... It totally paid off there... $1 here $1 there.. No biggie

We did not tip at all inclusives. We usually walked around with no money. If I did carry cash, I may have tipped some bartenders.

My dh and I go to AI's fairly often and we always tip. We stay at Excellence resorts and yes, tipping is not required but you cannot help but notice these people work their butts off and I have no problem giving a few dollars for their service.

This. I've actually offered tips to some staff members and they flat out refused to take them. Apparently, they are forbidden from taking tips at some resorts and can actually lose their job if they do. At least, that's what I have been told.

DH & I always tip all inclusive or not. Most of the servers work so hard to make your stay enjoyable and I appreciate that. I leave a nice tip for the maid at the end of our trip. OR I ask if the maids are the same for the week. If not, I tip a little bit per day to make sure each one does get a tip.

If I plan to stay at the pool/beach for a while and order drinks, I tip.

Breakfast/Lunch we leave like $2 -Dinner service we give a little more.

Some of these servers in these all inclusive work 12-14 hours shifts and are poor.

Re: Tipping at all inclusive resort

we tipped @$2 a day to the maid. Threw in $2 to the person who fills the mini fridge if we made a special request. And we did @ $5 to our waiters at meals.
And at one hotel we stayed at (its a hotel with an AI option which we did) we tipped the beach waiter $8-$10 a day. But the service on the beach was so good, we felt they deserved it. Sometimes we tipped @ $8 each to 2 waiters if they both were serving us.
The AI resort we went to, the service wasn't as good on the beach so we tipped $1 a round, but sometimes we had to walk to the bar and get the drinks ourselves. And didn't always get the same waiter.

We tipped the bartender that we went to the most and the concierge.

The reason why I tipped the concierge was because delta held my luggage at JFK for two days for no reason (Chat Icon) and once she had confirmation that my bag was on a flight down, the woman that had been helping me stayed an hour after her shift ended so that she could deliver my bag to me herself.

We bring down a lot of small bills and do tip for good service. Nothing crazy. Couple dollars at the bar, maybe $5 or so at dinner. A couple dollars at the buffet lunches. A little goes a long way in most of the AI that I visited. Hey the bartender remembered my family 2.5 years later at one AI.

Great, good to know. Will definitely pack a bunch of smaller bills. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't offending anyone by leaving $5 for a dinner tip, you know?
