newborn clothes
The last 2 babies I had I got new stuff and washed it in dreft. This time is a lot of other people's used clothes thus far I have washed everything in vinegar, tide, and chlorox2. Then it's all going into storage bins. Just before the baby I plan on washing everything again. Question is, are detergents like Dreft really necessary or can I just wash everything in Tide?

I use Tide free and clear...I think if it's clean when it was in your storage, you need not do Dreft..I actually never used Dreft because I am always wary and don't like smells on clothes (I know, weird)

I wash everything in Tide. As long as your LO doesn't have an allergy, its fine.

Back when I worked at babies r us (10 or so yrs ago) we were told it's not really about allergies with baby detergent... It's because all baby clothes are treated with a slight flame retardant. The regular detergents wash that out.

Re: newborn clothes
We bought one container of Dreft. Once we use that up, we will use free and clear detergent.

I read that it is the fabric softener that does that, not the detergent

Re: newborn clothes
Oops... i used all those things to wash as well as dryer sheets. When i re wash i won't use the dryer sheets. I prefer to maintain the flame retardants but then again i believe if i were to buy organic baby clothes there would be no flame retardant anyway. Oh well. It's just since they were used clothes i wanted odors out. I'm sure the vinegar alone removed the flame retardant?

Re: newborn clothes
Never used Dreft, it's a fortune. I've always used All Free and Clear for the kids. It is cheap and works great!
ETA - I also use the scent free dryer sheets. I cannot stand clothes that are covered in static. Drives me nuts.

Re: newborn clothes
I bought All Baby and switched completely from Tide. I notice a huge difference in how clean the clothes feel and how there is no residue on them if that makes sense.
It barely has a scent once washed but from the bottle smells like baby :)
