Day Care - where to start?
My DD is in daycare 3 days a week and the other 2 if my DH is off or my dad watches her. My DD goes to Tutor Time. When she is 2 1/2 I plan to send her to my parishes Nursery School. She's only 15 months right now.

DaniRella - thank you for your reply, your son is adorable! Unfortunately, we are in Western Nassau, Floral Park to be exact. It sounds amazing though.
I just don't know how to even find a place and get started - just google and then do visits and research?
I am in Floral Park. My mom watch's DS (19 months) at the moment but we have been looking for a place as well. I looked into http://littleexplorersacademyfloralpark.com/index.html a couple of months ago. They had a waitlist but still may consider them! I haven't visited yet though. I don't feel there are too many options in the area!!
Hello neighbor! I also reached out to Little Explorers and drove by one night after work - looked like a lot of parents making pick-ups. I sent an email, but haven't heard back. I'm sure there's a waiting list, but I'd still like to hear back from them. I may try and give a call.
ETA: they had quite a few violations I was able to look up on one of the sites provided above, but I think it is more likely to have violations in a home care setting than an actual facility. Doesn't make me feel better, just thought I'd mention it. Any idea of cost?
Oh really? I need to look into that. Never got an email back, had to call for info. For my son's age it was a little over 1k for full time. I believe they have part time but not sure of the cost. There is also Tutor Time in NHP that I may consider. Need to start doing my homework!!

Day Care - where to start?
Make sure that everyone is on board with watching LO first.
I have to say I'm partial to the daycare setting. We thought we had family support when we had LO. We were even told "we can help, you don't need fulltime daycare". When it came down to it, no one would help and we were running around crazy trying to find daycare. We don't rely on other people anymore or what they say. Daycare makes life so much easier and LO loves it. LO learns so much too!
Now when we need babysitters we don't feel too bad because during the week no one sees him and we don't feel like we take advantage.

Re: Day Care - where to start?
Not sure if Mineola is too far - but I use Harbor Day Care and LOVE it. I liked Tutor Time in NHP as well.
My MIL offered to watch my DD some of the time and now that my mom is retired, she would too - but I really love that she's in daycare. They play in the gym every day, paint and do art projects every day - get a good variety of food and have music class, baby yoga, outdoor time, a certified nurse on staff, lots of social interaction, etc. My mom and MIL pick up my daughter early 3 days a week - and while I like that she has family time -I find that especially with my MIL - if it gets to be too many hours, they watch TV or skip her nap or feed her cheerios an hour before dinner or other annoying but not monumental problems.

This! And the best part of daycare is if one teacher is out sick, has an emergency, etc- there is always back up. You never have to worry about your family member, in home sitter, etc, getting sick or having something come up and you having to take off work or find a last minute back up. The only days they are closed are the ones they list up front for major holidays. And I love the social interaction and learning environment. Not to mention at 4 years old, my DD has the immunity of a horse- she is NEVER sick. Ever. I swear she built up super immunity from being exposed at a younger age. I'd do it all again 100 times over. Worth every single penny

Re: Day Care - where to start?
I looked into a few different places. We checked out Harbor Day Care in Mineola on Willis Ave - that was the best from the day cares in the near by area in my opinion. We're going with someone out of their home, because it works better with our schedule, flexibility, etc., and they came highly recommended, but Harbor was our second choice. I also checked out Tutor Time in New Hyde Park - please avoid it at all costs. When I went to visit, I wasn't greeted for 10 minutes (I was in an area that I could easily go into any of the classrooms), I had to find someone to help me, and then when I went to visit the infant room, one of the teachers was sleeping w/ the kids on the floor, while the rest of the kids were in the cribs.
Goodluck!

Thanks! Yes, I've heard not great things about Tutor Times, so we will be avoiding. I have been emailing with Harbor Day Care and they really do sound great. We will be visiting them, the NHP and Mineola locations. How did you find someone out of their home? Is it an official day care or a friend? Just wondering, since I know we are in the same town too!
