Help for 3 month old with terrible reflux
My son has been struggling with reflux since a few weeks after he was born in October. The dr originally said it was colic and to give him mylanta for the discomfort. In december he started fighting the bottle- he is exclusively formula fed. The pediatrician put him on Alimentum from Similac Sensitive and Zantac. Didn't see a change with either. Went to one GI and he said he had an MPSI and put him on Neocate, then added prevacic. My son still needs the mylanta though ,but he seems to be building up a tolerance to it. Feeding him is an absolute nightmare, this past weekend he needed to be fed with a syringe. I don't know how to help him, but for those of you who used Mylanta, how much did you give your little ones? He is on 2.5 ml ever other feeding but was wondering anyone upped the dosage. Thanks for your help- we are meeting with our third gastro tomorrow and hoping they will be able to get to the bottom of this. Thank you all, any help is super appreciated!

Help for 3 month old with terrible reflux
My son had reflux bad when he was a baby. We went to alimentum was on the max dose of zantac. the only thing that helped him (under the supervision and advice from his doctor was giving him a "mud bottle") Adding cereal to his bottle. It was like night and day when we did that. But again this is a controversial subject because a baby can aspirate when taking cereal in the bottle but this was the advice of our doctor and it worked for us. Maybe see what your dr. feels about it

How long your baby to Prevacid? It takes 7 to 10 days to work.

Re: Help for 3 month old with terrible reflux
Have you considered a chiropractor? I know a few people that have said those few sessions have been very helpful and there was, in turn, no need for Zantac or fancy formulas. Just massaging them, no machines etc Theory is that babies are so bunched up in uterio and may become "misaligned" which causes these reflux symptoms

Help for 3 month old with terrible reflux
We were told to use Maalax in every bottle (don't know if it's the same thing) by a GI, along with oatmeal in each bottle. It was over 3 years ago so I forgot the dosage. But i know it was every single bottle. My DS was on Axid for the meds.

Re: Help for 3 month old with terrible reflux
I did not want to give my DD any medication so I took her to my chiropractor and with natural treatments her colic and reflux was gone after a few visits. My chiropractor happens to specialize in seeing pregnant women and babies & children. She also taught me some baby massage that I could do for my daughter at home that really helped! Good luck

Re: Help for 3 month old with terrible reflux
My daughter has fairly bad reflux and she is on prilosec (1.5 ml 2x a day) and Mylanta (2 ml 2x a day).
She also drinks Enfamil AR which is the formlua for spit up. We hold her upright for 30 minutes after a feeding and she sleeps in a rock and play.
All of these things together seem to help her. It doesn't eliminate the reflux but makes it more manageable.
From my understanding, the Mylanta helps sooth the pain of the reflux by coating the esophagus. The medicine is what will help suppress the acid in their stomach I think. Has your dose of prevacid been increased as your baby gains weight. I know whenever I feel like my daughter is having a tougher time, its because her weight has increased and she needs a larger dose of prilosec.
Good luck!! I know how hard this is!

Re: Help for 3 month old with terrible reflux
My son was on Mylanta, Prevacid, Zantac and neonate for the milk protein allergy. The thinner the formula (Neocate is an extremely thin formula) the more difficulties. We did have to adjust the medicine frequently as his weight grew though.

Help for 3 month old with terrible reflux
Im not sure if this will help but my son slept in this from birth till about 8 months. According to the reviews, it has helped put babies to sleep with bad reflux. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/cr/B00DEI6MMU/ref=mw_dp_cr

We did exactly this for DD! The Alimentum helped bc she had an allergy to dairy but she was also battling reflux so under the doctors supervision we did cereal in the bottle and it was the best thing we could have done for a few reasons. It totally stopped the acid reflux, she was fuller longer, and sleeping fully through the night at 6 weeks.
I hate when dr's automatically say its colic! I wish you the best and hope it gets easier fast.
