In bed. Fortunately I did not have the "pop" or gushing fluid. I thought it was just discharge so when I went to the bathroom I noticed some trickling and yelled to my hubby "Ummm, I think we need to go the hospital, my water broke!"

Where did your water break?
Baby No 1. In hospital bed after I was checked in and about 4.5 cm dilated. Dr had just finished exam, offered to break water. I declined and said I would wait a bit to see what happened naturally. As the door was closing on his way out, my water broke. Not a huge gush or puddle. Just a trickle.
Baby 2. In hospital when Dr broke it during stalled labor. I was at 4cm for hours and contractions were tapering off.
Baby 3. In my living, as I stood up from working on a floor puzzle with my other two kids. Again, just a trickle. But by the time I was at the hospital and walking to my room, I was gushing everywhere.

Both times my doc broke my water while I was very dilated and in active labor

Driving! I heard a pop and felt a huge movement. Once I parked and stepped out of my car, the water gushed! Thankfully my DH was with me and I yelled,"omg, my water broke!" I don't think you're never really ready for 'that' moment :)

Sitting on my couch. But it wasn't enough to even go through my pants until I stood up to go to the bathroom. It wasn't a gush. Didn't ruin furniture.

Midnight in bed but the gush happened when I stood up. I was jolted awake by a pop feeling and I got out of bed and then had the gush. My pants got soaked but nothing else
This! Same time, same place, but no pop. Just felt it and wondered - did I just pee?!? (these things can happen at 40w pg! lol)

It never did either pregnancy. First time I was induced so they broke it in the hospital. Second time It didn't break until I was almost ready to push. It doesn't always break on it's own.
