What did you use to swaddle your older baby?
I'm really struggling with my 6 month old's naps. I've been trying to get her to nap in the crib without much success. If I let her cry she'll usually cry for a minute, then settle and close her eyes for thirty seconds, cry thirty seconds, repeat. We haven't swaddled in a while but I think it might help her not startle awake so much. She's not rolling yet so I figure I can at least try it for naps when I can keep an eye on her.
So how long did you swaddle and what did you use once they were older?

We stopped around 5 months. I loved the Aden and anais easy swaddle blanket with snaps. They have a size for bigger babies.

Re: What did you use to swaddle your older baby?
I had to break my son of it at around six or seven months - he got too big.
And he was ready -- physically. He wasn't really ready to let them go emotionally yet but he had to. So, I had to do one awful day of CIO -- well, it was at night. One night of him screaming, going to sleep, sleeping an hour, and screaming - repeat.
Then, after that, never another problem.
It stinks but it must happen at some point. And looking back, it feels like nothing - it was literally just one night. And he's a fabulous sleeper.

We transitioned out of the swaddle by switching to a halo swaddle where you can swaddle with arms out. Then we just stopped swaddling. She actually slept better once we removed the swaddle completely.
She didn't start rolling around in the crib til the week she turned 1. Now she's all over the crib lol.

I broke her of the habit bc she stopped sleeping well anyway and the only one I had that fit her was a fleece halo and it was too hot for that. Here we are probably two months later and not only is she not sleeping well at night unless she's in my bed but she will only nap in my arms and usually wants to nurse to sleep. I didn't want to go back to the swaddle but to watch her in the crib startle awake every 30 seconds I feel like physically maybe she really needs it still. Hopefully if she learns to fall asleep on her own in the crib it won't be too bad to break her of it later.

I stopped swaddling my dd around 3.5 months because she was able to get out of the blanket. We switched to sleep sacks and she still sleeps in one at nearly 15 when she needs a blanket. I used the halo sleep sacks and the babydeedee brand for the heavier ones.

We stopped swaddling around 3.5 mo when we moved to cribs. We figured we would just need to re-sleep train I swaddled. Plus they were breaking free.
Maybe try a sleep sack with the wings where you just swaddle the arms in?

What did you use to swaddle your older baby?
DS was swaddled only up to his armpits from the beginning - he never kept his arms swaddled, and hated it if they were. He was in the swaddle sacks from around 4ish months when I found the swaddle blanket up near his neck one morning. He has been out of those for the last few weeks as he just grew out of them.
ETA: Since then he's been wearing either nothing (just the onesie pajamas) or the halo sleep sack.

I wouldnt call it a swaddle persay. When she was older I would lay her down and then tuck the swaddle blanket over her and tuck it under her sides. Like a swaddle only on top haha It worked for a long time and helped her sleep!

We used the convertible Woombie. It's an awesome swaddle that you can unsnap at the shoulders so their arms can be out when they are ready.

we used swaddle me up until now-- he's in between the smaller & bigger sizes. so i just ran to buy a halo size small for in between. we are going to have to transition sooner rather than later! but right now the sleep sacks dont work :( fml

I saw that halo started making a muslin swaddle sleepsack so I'm going to give that a try. This morning after fighting her nap for a half hour I swaddled her in a muslin blanket and she was out in a few minutes. It didn't last too long but it's a start!

We used the Swaddle Me's until she was almost 9 months old but she never budged when sleeping.

This is what we did, around 3 or 4 months old. First I swaddled DS with 1 arm out, then 2, swaddling just around his waist. I think this was more for me than for him. He slept way better once we stopped swaddling b/c he could suck on his hands without having to fight to get his hands out of the swaddle first.

The zippadee is the best. It's essentially a wearable blanket but the hands and feet are covered. DS is almost a year and loves it. He doesn't nap in it but I bet it would help!

Re: What did you use to swaddle your older baby?
My oldest was addicted to being swaddled. At 5 months I had to take them away because she was rolling and I was afraid she would roll in her sleep and not be able to get over. It was a nightmare. I tried sleep sacks but they didn't seem to help. Right before she was 7 months we had to do CIO it was awful but it works.

This! My little guy loved to be swaddled. We used the halo sleep sacks with swaddle arms until he was too big and could roll over. I tried taking his arms out but he still cried. I bought the zippadee zip out of desperation and he loves it. 13 months old and still using it.
