Table Pad...yay or nay?

We just bought a new dining room set. It's not a super expensive set but I want to keep it looking as good as possible especially since it's where we primarily eat. Do I need to buy a table pad or will trivets and place mats for hot dishes suffice?

Definitely yay. I didn't get one right away and regret it. I ended up buying one last week

i say nay, but only because i rarely eat on it and we like the look of it without a tablecloth, so a pad wouldnt work for us

Table Pad...yay or nay?

I say nay- our dining room table we eat at every day and my husband may also work on his laptop on the table. I don't have one, just thick placemats and I have never had an issue with the hot dishes. If I have a hot bowl from the oven I use the rubber hot plate pads on the table.

I think it depends on the table you have and what its made out of. Our dining room table we have pads for but we only eat on it occasionally. Day to day we do not have them on the table. Our kitchen table was cheap and not real wood and we never use a pad or tablecloth. I use potholders if the dishes are hot but that's about it.

Re: Table Pad...yay or nay?

I didn't buy an actual real deal table pad. I bought the one from bed bath that you cut to fit your table. Felt on bottom, plastic on top. It works fine.

When using the dining toom table, I put table pad, table cloth and then use trivets or even just dish towels folded under hot plates. I actually bought a few thick quilted placemats from the Christmas tree shop and use them for under hot plates as well

Table is protected

Re: Table Pad...yay or nay?

We got a glass table top. I like that it protects the table, but I hate that liquids get underneath b/c it's heavy to move and clean under....usually a 3 person cleaning project! Before the glass top we used a table cloth, which I liked. The only annoying thing is we leave things on the table all the time (candlesticks, napkin holder, papers, laptop) so taking everything off to change the table cloth was annoying...but not terrible to do once a week.
