UPDATE City employees/wives - please come in
I'm trying to do a search on the Empire site to determine cost for labor, hospital stay, etc. but I'm not having any luck.
Any insight?
If it matters, DH is FDNY
UPDATE: 1. You'll need to make sure that your hospital is in the network (which I didnt realize) For those that will be in Stony Brook, you're good 2. $300 deductible will be paid to the hospital 3. You are pre-approved for: a) Vaginal Birth: 2 days stay b) C-Section: 4 days stay If for any reason, you go past the 2/4 days, you need to call the number for the Healthline that's on the back of the card to get approval 3a. If the baby is in the NICU and you are discharged, you will also need to call the Healthline number to get approval for him/her 4. The birth certificate needs to be sent in within 30 days of birth so the baby can be retro to DH's insurance and covered for everything
Thats pretty much it - I'm glad I got that information but it was seriously difficult to get anyone on the phone. I ended up just having to push 0 and be one of those people Hopefully this helps!

I know the new rates went in effective 7/1... prior to this though I paid a $300 co pay for each of my kids to the hospital. I would call BCBS directly and ask.

Re: City employees/wives - please come in
let us know what you find out.. I should really look into this too, my husband works for the NYPD and I am due the end of the month. I know his co-workers whose wives delivered previously didn't have to pay anything other than the co-pay but with the new changes, who knows. according to the new card the co-pay is still $300 for hospital admission

We have GHI so I sign into the Emblem Health site, but I'm sure Empire has the same stuff. Under Coverage and Benefits, there's a link to the Summary of Benefits and at the end of that it has an approx. cost and what's covered for "having a baby (normal delivery)"

When I had my two kids - it was the $300 copay. I also got billed though for the anesthesiologist and hospital ped who were both out of network.
I negotiated with the anesthesiologist and did not pay the hospital ped bill.
