Is it bad that i have no idea what we spend? We just go to the store when we need stuff and buy whatever we need. I dont' even think we shop every week. Just at random. I haven't a clue what we spend a week, a month, a year on groceries And I would imagine it would be different all the time depending on what we are in the mood for that week.
Same here. We don't budget weekly or monthly for food, just buy what we want when we want it. I know we do eat take out way too often. I hate cooking but DH enjoys it.
I don't budget food. We just cut on other things.

God I eat like shit. I rarely eat a fruit or vegetable. I don't even know how I'm still alive. LOL. Nothing ever excites me in the produce aisle.
This totally cracked me up. This is me. But I am trying. I started using spinach in lasagna or in Italian meals and I love it. I also roast my veggies in the oven. Only way I can enjoy them. Fruits are a work in progress.
LOL. I also realize that fruit, while it's better than eating junk food for a snack, is really just full of sugar. It's not a be all, end all. Veges I need to work more on though. But the thought of them makes me gag.

This is why I transform them. My husband eats fruits for snack or tomatoes I grow for him. All I think is my fingers will get dirty. Lol

Groceries
We spend way too much especially with the prices at the local grocery store. We give DD Horizon Milk with DHA, here is the price (not sure if the link works, but here is the url): http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l74/jkd_guy/OG/IMG_0633.jpg

I don't even know how much we spend, but I can tell you, if you are shopping at the grocery store, you are getting ripped off. I can't believe how much certain things are there! I rarely go into a regular chain grocery store like Stop and Shop, etc.. I go to BJ's, Target and Trader Joes. I spent $135 in Target this morning, and bought enough stuff for the week. That included many organic items, Applegate Farms items, produce, chicken and beef, etc.

See and I went to target last week for groceries, which I never do, and it cost me so much more than I spend at shoprite. I was floored! I find anywhere else costs me a significant amount more so I just stick to that store.
For all the egg eaters, I get 2.5 dozen almost every week from shoprite. Their current price is $2.09. No one else comes close to that. I buy mainly fresh produce, meat, and dairy and find consistently better prices at shoprite.

I don't buy milk, eggs, etc. there. Milk is $2 a gallon at BJ's, eggs are cheap, not sure the exact price. We don't have a Shoprite near us, so I don't shop there.

Groceries
We spend about $170 a week for a family of 4. DDs are 9 and 11. We eat/pack all meals from home and very rarely eat out. This includes food/supplies for our 3 pets and paper and laundry supplies as well. I only use peapod, so I can control the list and price each week. I never go to the supermarket. I stopped shopping at BJs because I was spending so much extra $ there. Target is a problem for me, but I don't get many food items there... I wish I could get closer to $150 but it doesn't seem possible :(

Supermarkets are basically large convenience stores. So yes, you can overpay on certain items, but you are getting it all in one spot.
You have to know what to get where. Target is good for some things but not for others. I have noticed that things like cereal and granola bars are very cheap there; often their regular price is the same or less as a sale price in the supermarkets. Target will also sometimes have great prices on meats but only with a sale.
Supermarkets are better for produce. We eat a ton of bananas and they are cheaper at SNS or Shoprite than Target (we go to both.)
Strangely enough milk and eggs are super cheap at CVS.
It's a trade off. I am a teacher so during the summer I am more willing to do a bit of running around. But I teach in the city and my hours are a little longer than usual so during the school year we have less time to run to different places.
Stop and Shop can be pricey but it's also right around the corner for me while Shoprite is further.

Re: Groceries
2 adults, 2 toddlers:
Approx $125-$150/week. This covers five home cooked dinners and 5-7 home cooked lunches for all of us. This also includes paper products, cleaning supplies, bathroom supplies, etc.
We also do very cheap take out 2x a week (pizza, panera, chinese).
I use only peapod. I could probably cut this cost down if I was willing to go and personally do the shopping somewhere cheaper like shop rite or meat farms....I'm just not willing.

Re: Groceries
I've discovered which stores have best prices
Shoprite is good on can stuff (obv) and have some good cereal deals. Eggs are on sale a lot as well. I use most of my coupons here
Stop and shop has the cheapest frozen veggies. Always on sale and their brand is usually really good. Also, for some reason, they almost always have the cheapest Texas toast croutons (with sales) and salad toppers. Everywhere else it's $1.50 more
Best yet is where I get my produce. Least expensive and always tasty. They also seem to have the best deals on boars head cold cuts.
BJs - this is where I buy mostly all of my meat. I buy in bulk and separate into serving sizes using freezer zip locks. I buy other things like my multigrain sandwich rounds in bulk (I freeze them) I buy paper goods and laundry detergent here when there isn't a big sale going on going to target
Target has the cheapest progresso soup & blue diamond almonds. I buy target brand paper towels in bulk. I mean I literally have half a closet full of them. And I'll buy detergent here when they have their own coupon, I have manufacturers coupon and target is offering gift cards for buying it. I also get my Venus shave gel here (it's always under $3) and shop their sales using cartwheel.
No way I can do all this all the time. And the times I go to stop and shop (it's closest) to buy everything, I immediately regret it because I spend close to 30% more. But I know I'm paying for the convenience.

Re: Groceries
Do you buy a ton of alcohol?
We are a family of 4 and we spend about that much but I buy a bunch of organic and premade food at places like Whole Foods and Wegmens.
Then again, when we lived in Manhattan, the grocery stores were crazy expensive. It is much cheaper down here in DC suburbs.
