Speakers for Middle Schools
My school recently built in a "homeroom" period, where we have a chunk of about 45 minutes at the end of the day.
Ideally, we would also be able to use this period to work on social issues, life skills, etc.
Does anyone have any creative ideas? Suggestions for speakers?
We would have a very low budget, but I feel like it's such a great opportunity that we're not utilizing to the fullest of its ability.

Volunteers for wildlife located now in Locust valley go to schools. You mentioned social skills, not sure if you meant an org to help with that, but they can teach social responsibility for wild liefe

Re: Speakers for Middle Schools
A friend of mine is a motivational speaker and life coach. If you google him he will pop right up:
Scott Chesney in NJ.
He is amazing.

See if any of the parents have interesting jobs. I have been asked to speak at my kids school a few times because of where I work.

This guy came in to my school a couple weeks ago. I feel like he changed my life and perspective on things and my students loved him!

Re: Speakers for Middle Schools
Definitely check out Beautiful Me.
You could also do a unit on career exploration - there’s tons of curriculums out there and you can rotate in volunteer guest speakers to talk about their careers.
Also, a unit on study skills/note taking skills/ organizational skills
Unit on mindfulness, stress reduction, deep breathing, etc.

Re: Speakers for Middle Schools
Also, if your school has students with more significant disabilities, check out Best Buddies - you could use part of that program for a peer social monitoring program
