WWYD???***UPDATE****
I got home tonight and had a message on my answering machine for a LI district interview tomorrow. They said to call back ASAP and let them know if I am available. When I called back nobody was there and an answering machine did not pick up.
My question: Would you call in sick tomorrow in the hopes that they still have the spot open for an interview?
This school district is literally 15 minutes away from home. I currently commute 4 hours a day to a NYC school.
Also I called in sick two weeks ago because DD had a virus. Would it be bad to call in again that soon? I have been there for 5 years and have tenure.
WWYD? HELP!
UPDATE:
So I went for the interview and it went well. They called me back a few hours later and asked me to come in for a 2nd interview....but I turned it down.
It was a .8 position and had no benefits. They couldn't guarentee that I'd have a job next year because of budget cuts and they wanted me to start Feb 2nd  I would have had to quit my job in the middle of the year, give up tenure and pray for a job next year.
Please tell me I made the right decision?

Call in sick as long as you have the bank days who cares you cant get in trouble.
Plus if nonetheless its a day to relax.

Definitely call in sick, but call the school by 8 o'clock to see if they still have slots available. Also, this time of year is alot of leave replacements. GL!

at the very least (if it's a leave replacement) you can go for interview experience! I think that if they called you they have a certain number of slots and will fit you in...they understand that people work.
ETS: plus you can spin it that you stay late at school, burning the midnight oil, etc - that's why you didn't call back

I think you absolutely made the right decision...next year is supposed to be really tough, alot of places are talking about excessing a serious amount of people

You could have taken it -- you are entitled to the position in your building for a year and a day.
What does. .8 mean? Is that a part-time position?

Yes, usually a 4-day week or a reduced class load.
I think you made the right call. Keep on sending out resumes! Interviews are contagious... Once you get one, you get a bunch more right after!

I think you did the right thing. I am wondering how school budget votes will go in the spring. I think there will be layoffs- there were in my area not long ago, when things weren't so tight.

In this economy, you made the right decision. My district is excessing and getting rid of most leave replacements for budgetary reasons, which means larger class sizes.
