Yes It's to prevent blood clots after any surgery. I had them after a non cs surgery too. I'd take a shot over risking a blood clot.
I have a clotting issue and take lovenox during pregnancy and 6 weeks after so shots don't phase me.

I did not have any with my first DD (LIJ Katz) but did have a few with my second (same hospital). They said it was a new mandatory procedure, but the nurse I had at the time when I inquired expressed that the general opinion was that it is unnecessary in most cases.
While it was "mandatory" - I later found out, from a different nurse, that you can decline. That option was not presented to me - it was "here you have to have this" with no explanation or right of refusal. That bothered me.
(not that i can say I would have refused anyway, but that's not the point)

Let me just say my first clot was diagnosed postpartum after a vaginal delivery. It was huge and I was then hospitalized for 2 weeks on blood thinners. Been on some form of blood thinners since and this was a lot of years ago.

I have no idea, because I was half comatose post c section. I almost died from complications during labor, so at that time anything they were offering to give me to increase my chances of survival I took.

I honestly don't remember but I don't think I got one. If my VBAC attempt doesn't pan out I will be having another csection in 6-7 weeks so I guess I will find out soon enough!

I definitely got a few shots of it post c section at NS Manhasset and was told I was getting it.
