Wow, that's disturbing. I guess no matter how many precautions they take nothing is fool proof
Nothing besides hiding in your house forever is completely safe and trying to pinpoint exactly where you got it becomes something you fixate on!
Tbh unless you had direct exposure with someone who was positive and you became positive, how can you really say where you got it? If no one tested positive at the dentist how can anyone be sure? Idk why the doctor would even say that if they aren’t really sure. Spreading theories like this, is going to do more harm then good.
You don’t know why the dr would say that? Dentist and eye dr are 2 of the professions that have the highest risk of Covid infection. That’s been a. Known since the beginning. So that’s why he would say it. If masks & distancing work, the only place that I didn’t have either was in that chair. 8 days later I got sick and so did dH. I wasn’t around anyone else while I was “shedding” without a mask other than DH. Which is why he was the only one who got it. Spreading theories? What an obnoxious reply. For real.
Masks and distancing help slow the spread but I am confused as to why anyone would think that they are 100% effective. If your dentist or anyone in the office tested positive after your visit they would have been required to call you and let you know so that means it has to be someone that was a symptomatic. It is possible but I would say it's just as possible that you got it from someone a symptomatic in your bubble or at work even with the masks. I know that the not knowing is maddening - but really it could be from anywhere and you just never know.
I was gonna say the same, it could have been from an asymptomatic person as well. Especially if no one at the dentist’s office tested positive.
I don’t recall if u said it already but PhyllisNJoe...did anyone from ur dentist’s office test positive or have symptoms?
I called them and told them. They wished me well and that was it. No calls from them after that. Though if the person I got it from was asymptomatic , they wouldn’t have tested and gotten a positive to trace. I could not tell you the amount of people I know who have “colds” and don’t get tested. So for all we know, people are running around with covid and not telling the people at places they were. They also lie. It’s so scary.
Since the symptoms are the same from a cold for the most part, people are probably not running to get a test. Who soon after the appointment did you tell them? I would think then they would have everyone in the office tested and tell everyone who was in the office when you were there and after to get tested.
My appt was 12/28 and I tested positive 1/6. I called them as soon as I got home from the dr. Along with anyone I came into contact with without a mask from Xmas on (immediate family, dentist, laser place and I told everyone at work even though I’m masked there - we had to shut down to clean and everyone who worked with me had to be tested. Thankfully I was off during the 48 hr shedding Period) I would hope the dentist office had the hygienist and the dentist who worked on me tested. If they didn’t.... I don’t want to even think of it because I truly love my dentist office. I will say the DOH asked me nothing about anything other than who I came into contact with during my 48 he shedding before symptoms started. I mentioned where I had been and she said the only days that matter are the 2 before your symptoms started. So one of those places was my laser place. I was there the day before symptoms.

Can we please stop talking about the dentist, please?
I have a dentist appointment next week and so nervous that I have arranged to be put on a nice dose of Valium from the dentist to calm me down. I’m going to have nightmares of this thread. I’m not going to lie, I’m considering cancelling because it isn’t an emergency, but I want that Valium since I’m doing a Dry January .
I’m sorry. I went in the spring and I was fine. You can get it anywhere. Take care of your mouth. It’s so important to overall health.

If they had asked about my dentist appt, they may have called them and had it go from there.

My MIL did a week after me. And then my fil almost 10 days after her. We had dinner with them the day before my symptoms started. So during my shedding period. But nobody else. We saw my other inlaws 2 days before that, they are all fine. And our besties for NYE (not shedding yet) and they are fine.

My son hardly hangs out with anyone. Actually the last time he went to get Ice cream with friends from school was like in October. He hangs out with my nieces frequently. If he was to ask, I would let him meet his friends.
Extracurricular- He goes to Kung Fu and an Academic coaching POD on his remote weeks. Which is not meaningless because my son needs the extra support for his education!! Not everyone can hide and be virtual only, without, grave Implications on their livelihoods.
Totally off topic -- but what is an academic coaching POD? Is that through the school? My son has ADHD and ive been looking at trying to get him into some behavioral therapy. The school doesnt offer anything from guidance.
It’s a program my son’s Karate school set up for kids who are remote. It’s 3.5 hours where the certified teacher will tutor, help them with school work and monitor. They clean the school in between sessions, wear masks and social distance. My son is the only elder kid, so he is actually by himself in the morning, so it’s like 1-1 coaching.
I’m in NJ, but I have heard of centers for students who are remote. There are various programs.
My son also has ADD and I needed something to supplement for the weeks he is remote. He needs as much structure as he can get and it’s hard for me to give him that while I am home and working. The school should be helping you. For the week he is remote, he actually has a 1-1 remote meeting with the school counselor to review his work and make sure he is staying on track or flag any missing work.
As you can see I’m trying to leverage any resources or help I can get. So I understand where you are coming from.

Re: Play dates
No play dates...I was never a fan of them even pre-corona but we do occasionally meet up with close friends and family. We have had to cancel some meet ups because of COVID exposure or general illness. Outside play dates we nixed but like I said I was never a huge fan of them to begin with.
Both DDs still participate in extra curricular activities..softball, dance, soccer, etc

Play dates
No playdates with school friends. We do see cousins and the kids next door. But with masks and outdoors. We know our neighbors take the proper precautions and we are comfortable letting our kids play with theirs. Extracurriculars have been scaled back this year. My 9 yr old did travel soccer in the fall, my DD's do one activity each- gymnastics or dance. But they did a lot more in the past. It is what it is for now, in September we can hopefully resume more of a normal school year activity schedule.

Back in March I thought that about this September. And yet, here we are in almost February...
I wouldn't count on anything at this point.

I haven't had anyone in my home other than my nieces a few times. And even when my nieces are over, I wipe down stuff all the time, and definitely clean a ton when they leave. But, I always did that anytime someone was in my home prior to Covid, especially my nieces since they are always sick

Play dates
We have had play dates, as normal, both inside and outside since early June. No issues. Now that it is winter we do a lot of play dates at each other’s homes. I also do some indoor play spaces.

Play dates
Indoor play dates, indoor extra curriculars, pretty much regular life just with the rules wearing a mask where it is mandated we are real date devils

Re: Play dates
DS is older -15 y/o- and he did travel baseball during the summer and fall. During the winter he has been doing once or twice a week indoor bating cages (masked and with 1 or 2 friends), and outdoor masked conditioning twice a week. None of his friends have come to our place and he hasn't visited anyone indoors -except my sister and her family-.
And talking about how this disease is so serious, in my home country my mom lives in a small building with only 14 apartments... and there have been 3 deceased people on the last month because of covid. Yes, they all were over 75, but it is scary.
