How do play dates go to politics? It’s really sad
Anyway - you all know my story (smell and taste come and go, still coughing and breathing is a little tight - sinus pressure sucks too BUT IM ALIVE) there are people who just need to learn for themselves when it comes to everything. Me, I learn from others. A friend almost died in a Head on collision when we were teens. Watching her learn how to read and write again made me swear to always wear a seatbelt. And a year later, was in a head on collision myself. Not a scratch on me. I learned from her. Why did I tell this story? LEARN FROM ME. I know you can’t live in fear. And I don’t expect anyone to. But please for the love of Christ, don’t be cavalier and quote survival stats. I’m 43 years old. In good health. No underlying conditions (other than my thyroid which the whole word has) I should have been fine. Everyone around me was. And you all know what happened. I consider myself very very very lucky even as hard as it was (and still is)
Stop arguing and start treating each other better. Everyone deserves to have an opinion and a view. But when it comes to a disease that your opinion of it not being a big deal can kill me because you work at the dentist I went to - it’s not just your opinion anymore. Remember your choices when it comes to this disease doesn’t only affect you.
Please stop bickering. Life is too short. And leave politics where they belong.
As sad as it it, politics have come in between all of this. Not to down play your illness as I followed and it was horrible, didn't you say you have Fibromyalgia? Do you think that could have made your condition worse? :(
Fibro is not a known illness. It’s more of a “we don’t know what’s wrong with you so this is what it is” illness. So no. Other than my thyroid and my blood type (A seems to get it the worst) there is no reason for me to get as sick as I did. Nothing. I have 2 brothers. One is diabetic and overweight - asymptomatic. The other has RA and is overweight - he had a fever for 2 day. 2 people who should have been very ill - nothing. There is absolutely no way to know how you will be affected if you get it. Covid is a magician.
Interesting. Do you know how long you had it as I have read a stressful even like a car accident could cause it. So odd as one person can get it worse than another :(
My fibro started 3 years ago. Honestly, it was at the end of my fertility battle and my body was just done. So stress and emotional trauma 100% has a connection to fibro. They also say if you’ve ever had mono (Epstein Barr) you have a greater chance of getting it too. My car accident as a teen started my lifelong battle with panic disorder. I was almost agoraphobic when I was 20 years old. Thankful for medicine and therapy and it’s now something I can control as an adult.
My life has been Interesting to say the least. Covid was just the cherry on top.
I will say I haven’t felt so positive in a long time. Everything looks different to me. I just want to love everything and everyone. So weird bc I’m a ***** lol
Oh wow ok. Lots of things :(

This is true. I know people who should have had it really bad or even died from it according to all the studies etc- who were barely sick. Then someone else, with nothing, has it really really bad. So random. But did you say you caught it at the dentist? I missed that. Were they able to determine that by contact tracing?
The dentist is the only thing that makes sense. The family I saw for Xmas - fine. The friends we saw NYE - fine. Pcr antibodies. All that. Dentist is the only place I was without a mask. My dr agreed it makes the most sense.

Fully agree with BFNY and JennP. This isn't hard. No one I know is hiding--we are all living and enjoying life--looking forward to resuming ALL activities soon.
Some of us "hide" online by staying really anonymous because the internet has become such a toxic cesspool of distortions, tantrums, and abuse. Who has the bandwidth to engage with that or have who or whatever is behind that know anything meaningful about them?
OMG.. YOU YOU YOU... you are the one always saying or implying we should stay full remote and hide. Anyone one says different and you respond passive aggressively with your Doom and Gloom post, and remark how we are going to be looked back in History as the destruction of this world! The downfall of civilization.. oh the horror
Everything YOU do is right and anyone who goes to restaurants, sends their kids to schools or tries to have a semblance of normalcy you respond but never quote with Bull sh!t. YOU contribute to the Internet toxicity, maybe practice what you preach, take a look in the mirror.
And yes, I know, I know - I’m mean, bully, like to fight, horrible internet troll, the downfall of man kind. History will look back on LIF and study the horridness of my ways and the username “Sash” will go down in infamy.
And you’re welcome, I Saved you from posting underneath me.

Tbh unless you had direct exposure with someone who was positive and you became positive, how can you really say where you got it? If no one tested positive at the dentist how can anyone be sure? Idk why the doctor would even say that if they aren’t really sure. Spreading theories like this, is going to do more harm then good.

Yeah you can't really know. You can guess but you will never know for sure unless you only came in contact with one person in the past two weeks and they were positive. It's been driving my husband insane. I told him he needs to let it go and move on.

You don’t know why the dr would say that? Dentist and eye dr are 2 of the professions that have the highest risk of Covid infection. That’s been a. Known since the beginning. So that’s why he would say it. If masks & distancing work, the only place that I didn’t have either was in that chair. 8 days later I got sick and so did dH. I wasn’t around anyone else while I was “shedding” without a mask other than DH. Which is why he was the only one who got it. Spreading theories? What an obnoxious reply. For real.

It’s not 100% confirmed so to me i find it odd that the doctor would say that. It’s my opinion. I used the term theory since they aren’t sure you got it from the dentist. Idk why that word is so insulting or obnoxious. I’m not trying to take away from you being cautious or the fact that you got Covid. I don’t think it’s anyone’s fault when they get covoid. It’s a freaking virus.
A story like this can change from dentist to doctor, like the telephone game and now people are saying they won’t go to the doctor because someone they knew got Covid. Which to me is harmful.

The weird thing though, and I'm not doubting you, is that the dentist and everyone else who work there are masked. And the theory is that masks aren't protecting us from other's germs so much as they are protecting others from our germs. So yes, you had your mask off to get your teeth worked on of course, but I would hope the dentist etc would be properly masked, gloved, all tools sanitized. Obviously things happen, nothing is 100% foolproof, but they should be taking major precautions to prevent their germs from spreading to you. That is concerning.

Many times with shields too as I went in one time with my child and the dentist had a mask and a shield. No one was walking around without a mask and the only time you take yours off is to get work done.

Masks and distancing help slow the spread but I am confused as to why anyone would think that they are 100% effective. If your dentist or anyone in the office tested positive after your visit they would have been required to call you and let you know so that means it has to be someone that was a symptomatic. It is possible but I would say it's just as possible that you got it from someone a symptomatic in your bubble or at work even with the masks. I know that the not knowing is maddening - but really it could be from anywhere and you just never know.

Maybe mismanagement of cleaning the tools. One mistake with that spit sucker and that’s it. A lot of maybes. And I’ll never know where it came from. But with process of elimination the dentist is the clear winner here. Does it mean I’m not gonna go get if I need to just means that’s what makes the most sense based on my personal experience

How do play dates go to politics? It’s really sad
Anyway - you all know my story (smell and taste come and go, still coughing and breathing is a little tight - sinus pressure sucks too BUT IM ALIVE) there are people who just need to learn for themselves when it comes to everything. True, there are times when the body deals with covid in an unpredictable way. But I think when people say that individuals that are healthy, young and without medical problems deal with covid easier, they’re generalizing, there will always be exemptions though.

My son hardly hangs out with anyone. Actually the last time he went to get Ice cream with friends from school was like in October. He hangs out with my nieces frequently. If he was to ask, I would let him meet his friends.
Extracurricular- He goes to Kung Fu and an Academic coaching POD on his remote weeks. Which is not meaningless because my son needs the extra support for his education!! Not everyone can hide and be virtual only, without, grave Implications on their livelihoods.
Totally off topic -- but what is an academic coaching POD? Is that through the school? My son has ADHD and ive been looking at trying to get him into some behavioral therapy. The school doesnt offer anything from guidance.

Re: Play dates
Can we please stop talking about the dentist, please?
I have a dentist appointment next week and so nervous that I have arranged to be put on a nice dose of Valium from the dentist to calm me down. I’m going to have nightmares of this thread. I’m not going to lie, I’m considering cancelling because it isn’t an emergency, but I want that Valium since I’m doing a Dry January .

But you know what's interesting - If I said I have cancer and I'm optimistic because it has an 80% survival rate, would you say to me: Yeah but 20% of people die and of the 80% that survive most are likely to get cancer again and die in then next 10 years? The compassion on this site is nonexistent for some posters. I am trying to see a silver lining of having Covid. It's not our FAULT that we got covid. We have been relatively careful recently. More careful than most of my friends have been. But as has been pointed out - unless you don't leave your house at all, you are at risk! We wear mask everywhere, we limit our interactions with friends and family. We skipped all the holidays with family. Outside of locking ourselves in our home I can't say would could have been that much more careful.
I have never seen more negativity about ANY disease, including ones that are much, much, much more fatal. It's really a bizarre psychological phenomenon. It's like people have lost their minds. So so so many people have recovered and are fine. But you don't hear about those. You hear about the rarer cases. Nobody thinks about that though. All doom and gloom.
There is this strange, unwritten rule that states that you must never, ever, admit that you're not absolutely terrified of covid.
The way some healthy, young people talk about it is so completely detached from the reality, but this is where we are at right now.
I think it's because it's new and it just surged so quickly. And then to see researchers unsure of how it's spread in the beginning, or the lasting effects... Anything unknown can be pretty scary.
I still think the fact that 400k in the US are now dead in less than a year (and 2 million globally) from this is startling. I personally can't detach from that.
People will argue that people die for a variety of reasons each year - car accidents, fires, cancer - I see that point. But this is now another added tab on the "ways you may die list." I like to see as less tabs as possible.
How many are listed as covid deaths though that are not correct? Ones that they were dying, sadly of something else and maybe got covid?
My answer to this -- who cares! And that is not to be snide or nasty -- just how i feel. It was COVID in the end. 400,000 US PEOPLE (2m+ globally)- with names, families, lives to live. Not all of these people are old or sick. I used to rationalize my fear by thinking that way... I hope and pray you do not lose a loved one to this virus. I find it only becomes real when it affects us each personally. :(

So if masks work then why do we need the 6 feet apart?
Is anyone watching the Inauguration? They are all on top of one another.
All of the people on that stage were tested each day over the past 3-4 days to minimize risk. And all of them wore their masks.

Wow, that's disturbing. I guess no matter how many precautions they take nothing is fool proof
Nothing besides hiding in your house forever is completely safe and trying to pinpoint exactly where you got it becomes something you fixate on!
Tbh unless you had direct exposure with someone who was positive and you became positive, how can you really say where you got it? If no one tested positive at the dentist how can anyone be sure? Idk why the doctor would even say that if they aren’t really sure. Spreading theories like this, is going to do more harm then good.
For real.
I was gonna say the same, it could have been from an asymptomatic person as well. Especially if no one at the dentist’s office tested positive.
I don’t recall if u said it already but PhyllisNJoe...did anyone from ur dentist’s office test positive or have symptoms?

I called them and told them. They wished me well and that was it. No calls from them after that. Though if the person I got it from was asymptomatic , they wouldn’t have tested and gotten a positive to trace. I could not tell you the amount of people I know who have “colds” and don’t get tested. So for all we know, people are running around with covid and not telling the people at places they were. They also lie. It’s so scary.

Do you realize how many people go to the dentist and have been fine? My child went last night, 2 weeks ago and 6 months ago 3 times. I watch people go in and out the entire time I sit outside.

Agree, this is prime time for the sniffles and I can see how easily it’d be to confuse it with covid. I’ve been reading all ur updates and my heart goes to u because u’ve been having it pretty hard . But if this gives u any consolation...new studies have been showing how antibodies from natural exposure to covid can last up to 8 months and there’s possibility that even longer (the people in the study could only trace 8 months from having covid). I’m hoping more positive studies emerge as time passes.

Every single person? Where’s did everyone find this info as I can’t find anything saying all of the families and old presidents, etc. have been tested.

Since the symptoms are the same from a cold for the most part, people are probably not running to get a test. Who soon after the appointment did you tell them? I would think then they would have everyone in the office tested and tell everyone who was in the office when you were there and after to get tested.
