Anthony has been using a spoon and fork since 2 and he does very well. Now at 3 he is a pro and prefers adult utensils.
Mattea is 15 months and will only eat with a spoon/fork and MUST feed herself. She is very independent.

DS self feeds with both and will sometimes still use his hands when frustrated.
He's great with the fork.
As far as the spoon goes though it can only be used with thick items (oatmeal, yogurt, etc) ... he wouldn't be able to eat soup or anything that doesn't "stick" to the spoon.
