Re: could be controversial

That's a tough one. It is their right to have one regardless of their circumstance. I don't think it's a desirable position to be in, but it's your right to make that choice.

IMO it isn't anybody's business what an adult's finances are. I would rather a child be loved by poor parents then neglected by wealthy ones. Being poor is a s u c k y way to go thru life, but people survive it.

Popele don't just "survive" it, many come out stronger, better, nicer and more devoted individuals because of it.

Re: could be controversial

Yes, it is their right. Is it right though? I think it depends on their motives for wanting a child. Are they planning on giving the child unconditional love and despite their finances, are they planning to give the child everything that they possibly can? A person's financial status doesn't always determine how well a child is going to be treated or how much love it receives. I know plenty of rich kids who have everything, but their parents treat them like crap.

I def give you an AMEN on that one. I hate that taxes are spent on people having kids, but I wonder what the numbers really are on how much of our check goes to welfare and medicaid. I have DH's unemployed sister calling me for money as well for her kid.

Re: could be controversial

Yes, it is their right, but it is hard to make an overarching statement. I spent the past year working in social services/foster agency. The parents were certainly not financially stable, and many of them had 5 and 6 children who they couldn't afford to clothe, feed, or take care of properly. Do they have the right to have children, yes? Do I feel like it is the moral thing to do, no!

Re: could be controversial

Do you guys remember years ago when welfare used to give you more $$ for each kid? I think people were having more kids just to get more $. At least they stopped that.
