Why can't people clean the snow off of their cars?
And I mean all of it. I don't enjoy instinctively ducking for cover as I am trying to drive down the road, because a giant sheet of snow and ice has come flying off your roof. Praying my windshield holds up and that I don't die by being smashed in the face with snow, ice and glass. I also don't enjoy being cut off because you can't see me as you don't know how to clean the snow off your back window. My commute to work this morning was like an obstacle course.

When I had to, I made sure to completely clean off the car. Now that I have a garage, cleaning is not necessary.

Pure Lazyness.
My windsheild almost cracked yesterday because some idiot was too lazy to clear the ice off the top of their car. I could have gotten into a major accident because of that.

I am so with you on this!
I can't resist bracing and ducking when I see chunks of snow flying off cars on the highway and I alwyas think... one of these days I'm going to duck out of instinct and run off the road!

I almost posted the exact same thing this morning.
People can be such idiots. It is NOT safe to drive your car unless you have completely cleaned it off.

I'm not sure, but I believe it is illegal not to clean your car off. Now whether a cop sees them and tickets them is another thing.

Re: Why can't people clean the snow off of their cars?
I'm glad I am not the only one. There was this one minivan that had at least a 2-3 inch over of snow on top of it...and the rest of the van was all clean. I don't care if your car is too high, it is your responsibility to clean it off, so you don't kill/injure/cause someone to have an accident.

Re: Why can't people clean the snow off of their cars?
Not sure why NY hasn't done it yet, but maybe cause i live in new england, but it's law here to clean your whole car off, you can actually get pulled over and get a summons for it. It's dangerous when ice comes at you at 60 miles an hour or more. You can also be held liable if it's seen or proven your ice from your car ruined/hurt/caused an accident.
I always have cleaned off my cars, even my truck. This is def a big peeve of mine.

I can't reach the top of my car to clean it off.
I try to run it as long as I can to melt stuff off, but it doesn't always work.

Re: Why can't people clean the snow off of their cars?
I'm sorry you had a tough drive in to work, that sucks!!
Unfortunately, I'm one of those evil people who doesn't clean off the top of their car and for that I apologize in advance.
FTR, it's not that I don't try, it's just that I'm too short and cannot reach the roof of my truck. I push off what I can but unfortunately, the rest just sits there and eventually blows off as I drive.
I will say this much, I do get a tiny bit of satisfaction when a piece goes flying off and hits someone behind me when they're tailgating.
I know, it's not nice, but I can't stand people who tailgate.
But again, I apologize to all of those drivers who get snowed on b/c of me.

I can't reach the top of mine either. They make brushes / ice scrapers with extending handles. They work great.

Don't they make a scrapper/brush that goes along the top of SUVs/minivans? I've seen people using them.

They make scrapers that extend. They work great. I've used it on my moms truck.

You should invest in an ice scraper / brush with an extendable handle. I'm too short to reach the top of my car, too, but these work great. Sorry, but it's really dangerous to drive without cleaning off the roof -- even for those who are NOT tailgating.

Re: Why can't people clean the snow off of their cars?
I hate that as well.
I drive an SUV, and yes, it's a pain to clean the top of it. But I always do my best. I have an extra long brush and clean as best as I can between the ski racks. It's tedious, but it's my responsibility as a driver.
Another thing people "forget" to clean are their brake lights and headlights.

No they dont, I have one. I extend it all the way out and I still can't reach and I'm 5'9".
Believe me, I do scrape as much as I possibly can but I still wind up with snow/ice on top of my truck...Sort of in a mohawk like shape, now that I think about it!

I agree. If you have the need for a larger/taller vehicle then it is your responsibility to do the extra work to clean it. I am thankful for the apology, but if you do end up hurting someone or causing an accident that isn't going to mean much. I can also suggest that you open your car door and stand on the running board, to reach the roof.

I have a truck also...it was pretty cold this morning, and I had a ton of food to bring to work. It would not have been easy to go into the garage and pull a ladder out into the street and get up on it and clean my car.
