How about a ladder?
I have a truck also...it was pretty cold this morning, and I had a ton of food to bring to work. It would not have been easy to go into the garage and pull a ladder out into the street and get up on it and clean my car.
This kind of goes along the lines of being a responsible driver.

I can't reach the top of my truck either, but if I get in the car (in the driveway) and go forward, brake...then go in reverse, then brake, I find that I'm able to knock all the snow/ice down my windshield or off the back.... or at least move it enough that I can reach it.

I try and be responsible, I let my car warm up, clear the windows, even with a long brush I cant get ALL of the snow on top. I think bringing a ladder out in the street by myself at 8:30 in the morning is a little ridiculous.

You dont need a ladder, just like a PP said, open the door and step on the running board or side of car.
Maybe try a step stool (not a full ladder).

ITA - it might not have been "easy" but would you rather cause a bad accident?

i was just using today as an example. Had I had snow on my car this morning...it would not have been easy for me. I am 5 foot 2....a step stool wouldnt do anything. I have a long brush, I stand on the runner...but there is some that I just CANT get. What am I supposed to do then? Im just asking.

I won't drive in 'inclement weather'. So I didn’t drive Friday or Saturday (DH drove me to work/errands) so I had 4" of solid ice on my roof this morning.

Re: Why can't people clean the snow off of their cars?
HUGE pet peeve of mine. Sorry, having a truck is no excuse for not clearing it off. It can cause a major accident.
ETS: DH uses a broom to get any snow off the roof. Also, if short and tall people can clean their cars off in the New England area (or where ever it's law) to avoid a ticket, why can't people in NY do it?

you don't need John Edwards to predict this thread is going SOUTH.
I don't think there is ANYONE on this board that can claim the title of "worlds safest most conscientious awesome driver"
I think instead of needling each other this week of holidays (did you can't the tree reference with "needle" it was subliminal ) post up a place where our vertically challeged suv drivers can find a 10 foot collapsible scraper extender, put a bow on it. and call it ahd (holi)DAY.

Re: Why can't people clean the snow off of their cars?
I'm only 5 feet tall... and I make sure the top of my SUV is cleaned off! Granted, now I can park in my garage, but prior to that, I would use a shovel or one of those large outdoor brooms that have a long handle to push the snow off. I did the same when I didn't have an SUV and I couldn't reach the top of my car.

I do use the running boards that's how I get my snow mohawk. For the most part I get a good amount off the roof but I do still have some left over. Of what's leftover I try to push off as much of that snow as I can but I know there is some left on the roof.
Do I think what's left on the roof is going to cause a major accident? No. I've seen the snow blow off, it's not in sheets exploding on the road and usually by the time I get to the end of my street most of it is gone.

This wasn't my intention at all, but I had a feeling everyone wasn't going to see eye to eye. I guess we can all just agree to disagree, but if we have made one person aware of the danger this poses, I guess it has sort of helped.

I think Kitty was just explaining how she had so much snow on the roof of her car this morning.
Someone asked if it snowed last night...

Huge pet peeve of mine. I also duck as I see snow or ice, anything flying at my car. I drive a truck as well. If DH is not around to help me clean it off, I start the car, let it warm up and attack the roof with a broom.

Then I think you need to keep a cooler with snowballs to throw at tailgaters, though I may do it myself...
