I hate that as well.
I drive an SUV, and yes, it's a pain to clean the top of it. But I always do my best. I have an extra long brush and clean as best as I can between the ski racks. It's tedious, but it's my responsibility as a driver.
Another thing people "forget" to clean are their brake lights and headlights.
Thank you for being responsible and not using your height as an excuse.
Well, as soon as you want to come to my house in the mornings and get up at 5 am to juggle getting yourself ready for work, while also taking care of a 19 month old, a 100 pound neurotic dog, a sick DH and have enough energy to whip out a ladder to brush off the snow from the top of my SUV, be my guest.
It's simply too hard for me to do all the time.
It's much less irresponsible than texting, chatting on the phone, eating, speeding, etc.
And I'm sure not everyone here is innocent of all of those things.
I do what I can.

Re: Why can't people clean the snow off of their cars?
I know I've never posted on here, so I'm not sure that people will actually read this, but I just wanted to weigh in on this one.
I was driving on the Triboro Bridge about 2 years ago and a gigantic piece of ice/snow came off the top of the truck that was in the lane next to me, hit my side mirror, and ripped it off the car. It was terrifying and if it had been a few inches in a different direction it would've come through my windshield and I don't even want to think about what might have happened. As it was, it was a few hundred dollars worth of damage to my car.
I know it's a pain to clean the ice off, but it is really dangerous and someone can get hurt.

As stated above, I've bowed out with Ophelia. There's no point in arguing about this.

THIS is what people need to understand. there should be no "ifs, ands, or buts" - just DO it so no one gets hurt

Okay...ummmm....Hey is that Tears for Fears song about how you may become head over heels if you get in an accident because someone didn't scrap the snow off the top of their car?

Re: Why can't people clean the snow off of their cars?
Totally understand your point, but I am sorry, but I am almost 8 months PG and I drive an SUV, and if my DH isn't around to do it for me, it isn't happening. I am not risking my safety or that of my baby to climb on a ladder, step stool, the running boards, etc. to get the snow off the roof. I am sure that there are a lot of people who have similar circumstances, are disabled, or have some kind of condition that prevents them from doing this too. Of course, most people who don't have issues should clean of their cars, but before getting upset, maybe we should think that the person with snow on his or her roof couldn't physically get it off.

That makes me crazy. I have seen a few accidents and I don't know how many near misses because of snow/ice flying off a car on the roads.

i love how people have every excuse in the book---i'm short, pregnant, sick, etc etc etc.
fact it, it's your responsibility to clean off your car. if your snow/ice hurts or KILLS someone, you'll have to live with that for the rest of your life. then you can tell your excuse to the cop, judge or coroner.

I guess you also never speed, talk on your phone, text, reach behind you to get something for your baby, take your eyes off the road for one second, etc?

I think they sell telescoping snow brushes at lowes. The bar extends out, and extends pretty far.

Re: Why can't people clean the snow off of their cars?
How is this debatable? I have a friend with a seizure disorder. She's not allowed to drive because society has decided that her convenience is not worth more than the lives she'll threaten on the road. Expensive and inconvenient for her? Yes. Her fault that she's afflicted? Of course not. Her attitude? Of course she has no right to get behind the wheel and take a life.

Re: Why can't people clean the snow off of their cars?
And for the record, I never let it turn to ice before it is taken off my car-- my DH takes care of that, but after it just snowed and I was leaving work, there was snow on my roof. I seriously doubt that 1 inch of light snow on my roof was going to kill someone. DH is a cop and said that he has never pulled someone over for snow being on their roof.

Re: Why can't people clean the snow off of their cars?
I clean off as much as I can but sorry I am not getting a ladder to clean off the top of my mini van. people shouldnt be driving so close anyhow, if you are then you will get hit but if you are at least a car length shouldnt make your car.

Re: Why can't people clean the snow off of their cars?
I think that during times of snow EVERYONE should be extra cautious. Yes, people should clean off their cars. But drivers must also exercise caution and defensive driving skills. They should keep further distances between cars not just because of the snow but because you may have difficulty braking.
The fact is dangers lurk everywhere especially when it snows - a branch can become bogged down with snow, break, and kill you. Depressing and horrible, yes, but such is life.

Re: Why can't people clean the snow off of their cars?
Its illegal not to clean the snow off your car. Hey if you get pulled over, hopefully the cop will accept the *excuses*
DH & I almost got into a gnarly accident over the wknd because of this very thing... large truck, HUGE sheet of ice barreling towards us. Had we (or DS who was in the car) been hurt, I'm sure the 'I'm short' excuse would have done fine. [/sarcasm]
but like leighla said, we do what we can... Just everyone be careful please... It was terrifying, seeing that thing coming at us, having to swerve with that thing coming towards us.

never said any of that--that's not the point of the thread.
and no--i do not text or use my phone without the hands free and never reach behind me when i'm driving.
the point is it's your responsibility. that's all.
