It is just ridiculous that I have to defend myself about having 1 inch of snow on the roof of my car. Of course, a block of ice is a different story, and I was never talking about that. I was talking about cleaning one inch of snow off my car after it snowed when I left work and it was still heavily snowing. If I tried to climb up on my roof to clean it off, I probably would have hurt myself pretty badly, and I have enough to worry about, so it is totally not worth it, when i live less than 5 minutes away from my job. If I am still going to be crucified over this, so be it. I am sorry that I ever posted on this thread to begin with. It is so not worth getting angry over.
Don't you know? The correct thing to do is risk life and limb to clean off the top of your truck.
if you don't like the law, take it up with your congressman....I do not get why you are arguing this
snow turns to ice people....
I never said ice. I said snow. By the time it has turned to ice, it is off my car. I was talking about a 5 minute trip after a freshly fallen snow. I do not get why that makes me a pariah. I forgot that everyone is perfect and always cleans their cars off as the snow is still falling. Silly me. I will remember for next time.
bottom line is you SHOULD clean it off... EVen snow flying off a car can cause distraction. The other day, I cannot tell you HOW MANY TIMES we had to swirve because a block of snow would fly at us... It startled the heck out of me.
People should be careful this time of year. You are not a bad person for NOT cleaning your car, of course not. But you are being just as irresponsible as someone who would text while driving.
My grandmother got into an accident one because snow hit her windshield and it frightened her. It doesn't seem like much, but it CAN be dangerous. That's all.

Here's what we do. Before a big snowfall- we put towels/tarps on the windshield and roof. Then, pull them off in the morning. Makes for quick cleaning.

Totally understand your point, but I am sorry, but I am almost 8 months PG and I drive an SUV, and if my DH isn't around to do it for me, it isn't happening. I am not risking my safety or that of my baby to climb on a ladder, step stool, the running boards, etc. to get the snow off the roof. I am sure that there are a lot of people who have similar circumstances, are disabled, or have some kind of condition that prevents them from doing this too. Of course, most people who don't have issues should clean of their cars, but before getting upset, maybe we should think that the person with snow on his or her roof couldn't physically get it off.
I'm also 8 months pregnant, only 5 feet tall and drive a SUV. I posted I think on page 1 or 2 of this thread that I make sure all the snow is off my car. I use a shovel with a long handle or one of those outdoor brooms with a long handle and it works just fine. I don't have to use a step stool or ladder or the running boards to reach either.
I would hate to think that I caused a serious accident because I didn't clean off the roof of my car.

Re: Why can't people clean the snow off of their cars?
I expect to see snow and ice come flying at me! I didn't realize it was illegal either, I just kind of dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge it.
FTR - I clean off my car. It's little and easy for me to do.

Re: Why can't people clean the snow off of their cars?
A few years ago, I saw a State Trooper with a number of cars pulled over on the side of the Northern State Pkway around 7am. They were mostly SUVs and the Trooper had all the drivers out on the side of the road cleaning off the roofs of their trucks.
I don't normally drive to work (I take the subway) but if I do, I clean off the ENTIRE car. The last thing I want to happen at 7am is to be pulled over on the side of the road, in my work clothes, to clean off the car!!

OMG that's GREAT it gave me such fond memories of Catholic grammar school... I will NOT drive with snow on my car. I will NOT drive with snow on my car. I will NOT drive with snow on my car.

Re: Why can't people clean the snow off of their cars?
So ironic. A friend had a bad experience with this just this morning, and then I look oin here and see the debate still raging. This debate is inane. Just because it's hard for you to fix and just because you feel entitled to use your car when you want to does not mean that you have the right, entitlement, or even the privilege of endangering others. It just doesn't.
A blind women can't do brain surgery by herself just because she's smart and desirous of doing it. A drunk driver can't get in the car and drive on the freeway because "I'm sorry but I'm not spending the time/effot/money to arrange alternate transport when my car is right here and ready to be used." And NOONE should be telling the world to stick it because he or she is too ANYTHING to be bothered making sure that his/her car is safe and roadworthy. If it's not, then stay off the road and forgo the privilege of driving until your car is safe---before you kill someone and/or lose that privilege.
ETA: This should be a dead horse--on here and in the world, but it's not.

I love the analogies. Especially the drunk driver. Great way of putting it.
