Never heard that it was Jews...I heard it was Muslims.
I have heard a few people say "my aunt/cousin/uncle/brotjher etc knows someone who knows someone who is Muslim and who told her not to go to work at the WTC that day"
Not sure what to think of these theories...Kind of sound like Urban Legends

It may have started there but I'm disgusted by how much traction it gained among good ole middle class NYers (and other Americans), KWIM? I find the ignorance in that belief as offensive as the 'theory' itself.
True, it may have started with a handful of hateful Muslims, but I think it spread by a bunch of hateful people (all kinds of hateful people).

As someone that went to school in Cali, I never even heard about the Holocaust in school! They never mentioned it! 
I'm talking about the 70's. I know my kids are fully aware of this atrocity and I made sure they knew it really happened and the POS's that condoned it!

Not a mention! I edited my post. There was never even a mention! That's not the case anymore but the censorship wheel was in full force and effect when I was in school in the late 60's and 70's!

I'm from Ca and I remember this when the movie Schindler's List came out. Also when the movie was shown at a high school in Oakland the students laughed during the movie...

Wow Phil I find that really amazing - we went to school at the time. I grew up here on LI and while I dont specifically remember studying the Holocaust I knew about it. I just asked DH who grew up in Ohio and he remembers learning about it in middle school. I am surprised CA was so different.

That's actually one of the dilemma's the movie targeted - was Danny Pearl beheaded because he was American or because he was Jewish, or was it both?
I had actually never heard about this until I watched the movie tonight - but there was a lot I didn't know about the times surrounding 9/11.
In the 80s, there was quite a bit of airplane terrorism. I remember seeing newscasts of terrorists holding pilots at gunpoint. Reports showed that these people would separate Jews from non-Jews on planes based on last names and kill them. I was to go to Italy with a high school class. I pulled out of the trip. My last name would have had me dead in a second.
Danny Pearl died with as much dignity as any man in his unfortunate position could. He did not deny his faith. May he rest in peace.

Airplane terriorism was going on in the 70's too! I was waiting at JFK for a flight to RI in 1976 and my Dad , whose name wass Jack, grounded me for a month because I called out" Hi Jack" in the airport. I was a kid, he freaked out!

I went to HS in NY, grad class of 2000 and there were girls from certain Catholic schools that never learned about it until we got to HS - I remember them being so shocked about it.

My Dad was even in WW2! There were alot of strange censorship surrounding me at that time! I think when I finally started asking questions alot of people avoided the subject! I found a book from LIFE my parents had and asked my parents about the pics of the 'POWS"(that's how they were labeled) they showed and still didn't get the real story!
When Schindler's List came out I had alot of questions for the older people in my life ! I knew then and there that my kids would be told the true history of the world events by me.

I grew up in Ohio in the 70s/80s. We learned about it. We had to read The Diary of Anne Frank in 6th grade and had discussions about all aspects of what happened.
Then we read Sadako and the thousand paper cranes. and Hiroshima. and discussed the Japanese camps. And the bombs.
Thinking back, we really covered the era pretty intensely for grade school kids.
Maybe that's why I never understand why people romanticize the WW2 era so much.

DH once got into a conversation with a student about different religions and when he mentioned that he was Jewish, the kid was horrified. He asked DH where his horns went because all Jews have horns. The kid was honestly baffled when DH told him he never had horns, and nobody he is related to does either. I would have loved to have seen his parents face that night when the kid went home with that one.

This is exactly what I heard, I never heard it being said about Jews. But rumors of Muslims staying out of work were rampant. Rumors saying that the coffee cart people that they usually go to weren't there that morning
