Spinoff to the non parent thread...

if you are a NON parent/ NON family, do you park in those child/family parking spots that stores have.

I find it disrespectful to do even though those spots annoy me.

I also don't park in the expectant mother spots.

Re: Spinoff to the non parent thread...

I hate when people park there. The sign reads "Parent with Child". Just because you HAVE a kid doesn't entitle you to park there - you have to BRING them to the store! Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff to the non parent thread...

I saw a single guy park his Porshe in a "PG" spot.

Nice!!!!!

I am not sure you can really enforce those parking spots.

But people just don't care!

I would never, I think pregnant women and parents with children should get closer spots.

Re: Spinoff to the non parent thread...

I am so tempted to key their cars!

I really never park in those spots...mainly because I like to park close to a cart return...it works out better and is easier for me.

Re: Spinoff to the non parent thread...

I have only parked in them when VISIBLY pregnant or when my kids were little babies.
While I really should be bothered by this, it does bother me when people with a handicap tag park in them when there are many handicap spots available! Even more so, it is people (like the porshe story from above) who are very obviously not handicapped Chat Icon

I hate people who park in the parent and child spaces, where I live they can fine you like $100 if you park in them and the wardens catch you.

I love those spaces!

Re: Spinoff to the non parent thread...

I have only ever seen "expectant mother" spots at one shopping center--once when I was younger I parked thereChat Icon --there were no other spots.

I told my BFF and she flipped out on me as if I parked ON an expectant motherChat Icon --I never did it again--now that I am older I see it is wrong--but when I was 19--not so much Chat Icon

I flipped on a guy in Food Lion parking lot when I was 9 months PG, he was in the spot for PG peeps. I made him feel like a POS, and called him a few not so nice names. He was young and fully capable of walking the extra 5 feet.

Sure I do. No one is as special as I am.

Nooooo of course I don't! They have them at the new TRU/BRU in Lake Grove and it was the first time I saw them. I was shocked to see them open too. I figured, of all the shoppers in the store, there had to be some pregnant women or families with children in tow.

2 things to consider:

not all women show that they are prego until the 7th month

and

not everyone notices the sign (i've done this before)

I know this doesn't apply to me, but I will say that my DH parks there even when he doesn't have our DS and it makes me so mad Chat Icon I yell at him every single time!

Re: Spinoff to the non parent thread...

I just don't park in them period. I have a kid. I'm pregnant. But i'm also capable of walking, so I leave those spots for people who might have it rougher than me.

Re: Spinoff to the non parent thread...

Never. DH pretends to just to get me all riled up. I don't know...just a pet peeve of mine. Being PG and having little kids is hard enough, getting them through the parking lot safely is a task. Why not make it a little easier. Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff to the non parent thread...

I never park in those spots. Why should I? I can walk perfectly well, thank G-d, and have nothing to carry besides my pocketbook and a couple of resuable shopping bags. I don't mind that those spots are there to help out others, and g-d willing, one day I will have reason to use them!

Re: Spinoff to the non parent thread...

i honestly think its a bit silly to have those type of spots. I mean if you have a condition that prevents you from walking distances when preggers or when you have kids then get the handicap pass. The only time I feel bad is when you have kids and its pouring out - i will let you have the spot ahead of me if its closer otherwise your kid can walk or rid in the basket.

I never have. I think I was at a store that has that sign twice but the extra 10 feet I have to walk won't kill me.
