I just don't park in them period. I have a kid. I'm pregnant. But i'm also capable of walking, so I leave those spots for people who might have it rougher than me.

I don't either. But I did when I had the infant carrier and I would get mad when I didn't see a car seat in the back of that damn car (or base)

I flipped on a guy in Food Lion parking lot when I was 9 months PG, he was in the spot for PG peeps. I made him feel like a POS, and called him a few not so nice names. He was young and fully capable of walking the extra 5 feet.

Good for you!! A young guy once just beat us into one of those spots when our DD was a newborn. I was annoyed. Our local mall has them. I stopped using them after she was a few months old. Honestly, it was a great thing those first few months, especially when I was alone because I was so anxious about parking lots and the stroller. I was glad to not have to walk to far with her.

I've only seen those signs at Buy Buy Baby, and even PG or with my kids, I have never parked there..... I'm also one to never park close to a store's entrance. I hate having someone park close to my car and chance it getting dinged Chat Icon

Sorry, I still miss PreggoJennZChat Icon

And as far as the spot...never parked in them, still never do. Like Kate said, I leave them for someone who might really need it. I'm fully capable of walking a few extra feet.

I hate when people park there. The sign reads "Parent with Child". Just because you HAVE a kid doesn't entitle you to park there - you have to BRING them to the store! Chat Icon

ETA: spelling

I agree but when I first started to drive again after the C-section I left DS with my husband and went to get a few things and used the expectant mothers spot. I should also note that I was wearing a heart monitor at the time and we weren't sure then how bad my now minor heart issue was.

In the UK virtually every store has Parent and Child spaces, and I park in them at every chance that I get. The reason here that they are so handy is that car parking spaces are sooooooooo tiny that its difficult to get in and out of the car with either a small child, or a car seat, or especially now that I am quite heavily pregnant.

I love them! I don't know what I would do without them!

people without kids with them park there all the time at BJ's. It makes me so annoyed.

I actually dont use the spots anymore , I like to park far and walk.

Re: Spinoff to the non parent thread...

Ikea has spots designated as "Family Parking." DH and I were so annoyed by them when we were weren't able to get preggo. We decided that, at the time, we were our own family, so we parked there.

<Sorry, I knew it was wrong at the time, but we didn't care bc we were so mad.>

I don't park in any spots that are designated for someone other than me, whether it be "expectant mother," "parent with child," "Handicapped," or restaurants' "take-away only" spots.

I would never park in one of those spots, although now that I'm pregnant, I definitely take advantage of them if I see one (just because I feel special). We were at BRU around the holidays and some guy and his son parked there. I kept giving them dirty looks when we saw them in the store.

If there aren't any pg spots, I usually park FURTHER away than normal because a little old lady might need the closer spot and it gives me good parking karma for when I really need a close spot.

I am a non-parent, but I am certainly not a non-family.

I'd never park there, unless I had my nieces or nephews in tow. Even then, only if I had more than one with me...

See this makes me nuts too. At Panera, they have compact car parking. I HATE when there is a big dukey truck in a to small spot, that my little car could have fit in. Makes me crazy.

i honestly think its a bit silly to have those type of spots. I mean if you have a condition that prevents you from walking distances when preggers or when you have kids then get the handicap pass. The only time I feel bad is when you have kids and its pouring out - i will let you have the spot ahead of me if its closer otherwise your kid can walk or rid in the basket.

I think it's just a courtesy.
I'm only 8 weeks pregnant and get out of breath walking up the stairs, so I can only imagine how out-of-breath someone in their 3rd trimester must get.

And also, I think they are being extra cautious for parents who are shopping with their children so they don't have to schlepp their kids across a parking lot where cars are whizzing by. (I'm happy the Babies-R-Us in Bohemia ha these parking spaces because that parking lot is a death trap!!).

I think they should have those spots.

I cant even tell you how many times some ******* parked so close to my truck, I couln't even open the door to put my son in his car seat.

What do I do in that situation?

Leave my kid in the stroller in the middle of the parking lot so I can back up my truck?

Re: Spinoff to the non parent thread...

When i know I have a lot of stuff to schlep to BRU to return or that I am going to buy a big item, i always park in stork parking. Sorry, but if you are so pregnant and you can you can still DRIVE to a BRU, you can walk from your car into the store. I spend most of my life schlepping--I live in a 3rd floor walk-up with a one year old, so if that spot is open, I'm taking it.

I have never seen spots for parents with kids.

Re: Spinoff to the non parent thread...

My husband parked at one the other night when we went to go watch the UFC fights at Hooters (Chat Icon ).

I told him to move the car and he said, "What pregnant lady is going to be at Hooter's at 10:30pm).

I said, "We are in Queens, anything is possible".

lol, sorry. I grew up in Queens. Chat Icon

I was 9 months pregnant & barely able to walk my dog up the block in 95 degree August heat. I think having Expectant Mother spots at BRU (of all places) is completely justified.

It is a courtesy, an act of kindness by the store to make life easier for their customers who are currently in a state of being more uncomfortable because they are pregnant with a child.

I am 30 weeks pregnant, I can drive fine. I can also walk fine-but it is slower and harder for me. I suppose this is the same as seats on the train and subway though, there are plenty of people who are inconsiderate enough to take advantage of those too and not offer it to someone who is physically at a disadvantage.

Re: Spinoff to the non parent thread...

I'm having such a hard time believing that these courtesy spots actually annoy people. I'm also having a difficult time believing that people cannot understand how shopping with a small child or while shopping 8 months pregnant is a little bit more difficult than shopping by your (able-bodied) self or with other able-bodied adults.

I'm really not above walking an extra 10 yards (heck, even 100 yards) to make life a little easier on someone who needs it.

So, to make it easier for YOU, you park in a spot designated for pregnant women? That's really rude.....

They are not smaller spots at the deer park outlets...just closer and not where anyone really parks...I could never fit my suv into a compact car spot nor would I try

But no one uses the lot by neimans last call when I would go during the day and the "low" emissions section would be filled with all suvs...which i always laugh and park

they are great to have and YES I use them since I was 5 weeks pregnant with DS Chat Icon now I'm pregnant and have a kid so the closer the better!

at BRU you can never get these spots, who doesn't have a kid with them?!

There are a lot of non pregnant people that could use a bit of a walk if you know what I mean. if you are not pregnant, you should NOT be parking in those spots. fat lazy Azz people!! sorry but now I'm annoyed
