Too risky. If the car's parked, OK, but moving, never.

Wrong. Just wrong. So unsafe since the baby was NOT in it's car seat. Stupid and unsafe.

How do you nurse when baby's in the carseat? Do you have it out of the base? Or hang over him/her? I don't know if my back could take that! but maybe I'm not thinking of how it's actually done.
I used to sit in the back seat of the car and use the hand pump- my hand was under my shirt but I would wonder if someone in an SUV would glance over and wonder what the he** I was doing.

Very dangerous! Pull over if you have to feed the baby. Unless you can somehow do it with the baby locked into the seat.

Re: A woman in the backseat of a moving car.....breastfeeding
yeah...I got up on my knees, leaned over seat(still in base) and hung it down to his mouth.
Def wasn't comfortable...but he was a horror in the carseat.
(we also travel through mountains, sucking helps deal with elevation-that's how it all started)
I COULD NOT waste that liquid gold if I was sitting there.
I also had engorgement issues...so it was better then bringing pump.
he was never keen on the bottle anyway.
ETA: the best was in Yosemite. The elevation was too much and we rented a mini van.
He's in one cap't seat. I am in another.
I am laying across van holding onto carseat through winding turns of mountain.

This was the exact reason why I did it too. We were on the last hour of a 12 hour car ride to my mom's in NC. Coming down the mtn from TN into NC and she started screaming. So I just hung over her. Not so safe for me, but it worked. It was dark by then so no one could see, but at that point I didn't care!

I've BF while DH drove, but DS was of course buckled in his carseat. I have a long torso so it wasn't bad for me.

If the baby wasn't in the carseat- too dangerous. I have breastfed in a moving car, but DD was strapped in & it just took some creative positioning on my part. If you have to take the baby out of the seat, pull over!

I've done it - with him in the carseat - leaned over him and nursed him for a few minutes to settle him down.

I've done it with them in the car seat. But I would never ever take my kid out of its car seat while driving.

Re: A woman in the backseat of a moving car.....breastfeeding
I think it's fine if they are in the car seat, I'd be too nervous to take them out while the car was moving

Re: A woman in the backseat of a moving car.....breastfeeding
DH told me about this and the way he described the story i thought the woman was driving!!
but either way baby does NOT come out of the carseat when the car is moving. you may think you are driving slowly/carefully but what about the other 1000 cars around you?

Re: A woman in the backseat of a moving car.....breastfeeding
As long as the baby is strapped in, fine. However the mom is still supposed to be buckled.
With the baby out of the car seat, no way.
eta. we bought a Podee for long car rides so this wasn't an issue.
