Don't like abortion, don't want one for myself, and am grateful I've never been in a situation where I had to consider it. HOWEVER, I am pro choice and think they should be legal and RARE. Hate the idea of someone using abortion as birth control, and would like to see improved sex ed and access to contraception (and emergency contraception) to greatly minimize the "need" for abortion. Don't think it's my place to tell other people what they can and can't do with their own bodies.
I completely agree!

I am pro-choice without a doubt.
And yes, I have had an abortion.
It was the hardest thing I have ever done and it was also the best decision IMO.
When I found out I was pregnant, it was during such a dark, dark time in my life. I had been doing every drug under the sun and I wasn't even 100% sure who the father was. (I was pretty positive, but there was a slight chance it could have been another guy.) Train wreck is a kind word for my situation.
Was young, addicted to drugs, and was already past the point by several weeks of when the baby would have been sharing a blood stream with me, so it would have had marijuana, ecstasy, cocaine, acid, mushrooms, crystal meth, ketamine, and various prescription drugs already in it's system before the first trimester.
Should I have said "Hey I need to be pro-life here and just have the baby and give it up for adoption?" No way could I give birth to that child who was likely damaged already, and who might not have had a great life with adoptive parents, if it had special needs. Who the hell was gonna adopt a drug addict's baby?
I likely would have had to have the baby enter the system, which can be flawed. There are TONS of people who take in foster kids and such just for the monthly paycheck; yet never really care for the child and they can bounce around.
Hate me, judge me, flame me whatever....for ME the case of abortion was the best option at the time. Something like that is a case-by-case scenario and that is why I believe in being pro-choice because ONLY I AM THE ONE who has to live with my decision. Not the person down the street....not the anti-abortion activists who spit at and threw pictures of bloody fetuses at me when I entered the clinic....ME.
And it is stories like yours that make me pro choice. This, to me, is a perfect example of why women shoudl ALWAYS have that right... and why it's not as black and white as the pro-lifers make it out to be. Thank you for sharing your story.

I think abortion is okay for Medically Nec reasons only. I have a very dear friend who used abortion as her form of BC and I get so angry!!!!

I don't have to live in those women's shoes.
So why should we make a decision for women we will never help support in any way in our life?
I find it very easy to tell women they should carry on a pregnancy, give babies for adoption.
The bottom line, I am not in their shoes. I am not in their situation.
I am not a pro abortion person. I don't think it should be used a way of contraception either.
There are many reasons why women have abortions. But most people who are not in favor of abortion will also not be involved at all in the situation of that PG person or provide any help to this person..
Well said. ITA.

I am anti abortion-for me.
I don't have a window into anyone else's soul so I cannot answer for them-that is their private struggle.

Re: abortion poll
Please no flaming, just stating my opinion.
I have to say, I have been pro-choice for most of my life. I fully believed in abortion in cases of rape, incest, or if the mother's life was in danger. I also understood the necessity of abortion for unplanned pregnancies although I wasn't AS comfortable with this but I wasn't against it.
A few years ago, I met a woman who was in her thirties. She had had 5 abortions in her lifetime. She was a well dressed, articulate business woman. It made me sick to my stomach. So while I believe in choice, I don't believe in abuse of that choice.
True, not my body, not my choice. But I really wish people would consider abortion carefully and I hope there aren't a lot of people who use it as careless means of B/C.

I agree too- I am prochoice but it is NOT something to take lightly- and it disgusts me that people do. My mom used to work for an ob/gyn who did abortions and she mentioned a patient who'd been in multiple times. The dr. told her not to come back.

I am pro choice. However I feel that like any medical procedure doctors should throughly explain what the procedure actually is and this is not always done. I know people who didnt get counselled properly about the emotional after effects and at times physical that can occur. One of my friends had an abortion at a later term and finally when she did get pregnant a few years later suffered a late term loss at 21 weeks due to placenta previa cause by uterine damage by her previous abortion. No one exlained that 2nd semester abortions come with greater risks than first trimester.
*trimester?
I think the issue here is that most doctors should not be preforming abortions after 12 weeks...
But many do for non medical reasons---
In my last pregnancy I could have been one of the rareties at 24 weeks..thats when the decision would have had to be made.

Not flaming you AT ALL...
The instance you mentioned is disgusting and I could never support a person like the woman you described. It turns my stomach thinking that people use abortion as birth control. However, I always wonder that what kind of a parent would a selfish beast like that make anyway?? KWIM?
It's on her soul, it's on her conscience... but I think her children are better off never knowing, never feeling, never understanding that they weren't loved.
How much more damage would these people do to their unborn children if abortion weren't an option? Morality laws don't make people moral.

I had ONE abortion...and that was more than enough for me to last 10 lifetimes.
For me personally, the emotional and mental anguish I went through and STILL go through is unbelievable. Just can't imagine how women go through 2, 3, 4+.
When I was sitting in the waiting area in the back with about 10-15 other women who were getting abortions that day as well, I was a nervous wreck.
I was sweating and apprehensive and scared out of my mind. But to make it worse hearing their conversations made me sick to my stomach.
One woman saw me so freaked out and said "Oh honey, you looks so nervous! You really shouldn't be - it's really not that big a deal. They put you out and you wake up and it's done!"
NO BIG DEAL!??!?! Speak for yourself!
Another one started saying how the clinic we were in was nice, but not as nice as a clinic in a neighboring town, where she had had 2 performed, but the BEST was one the next state over where she had her first one. Others in the room were nodding in agreement and sharing their "best clinic" stories.
Never have I felt so low in my life and wanted to vomit. I couldn't believe how EASY they made it sound and how many had had multiple ones. It was clear that several women were using it as birth control.
There were others in the room who had the same scared sh*tless look on their faces like me, and I think we all just sort of looked at each other with horror.
I vowed I would NEVER be back in a clinic telling my story to someone else like some pro at it -- and knock on wood I cleaned up my act and have not been back.

No flaming from me either.
I 'm going to assume that MOST of the people that voted pro choice think 5 abortions is not the right choice. I believe a person is allowed 'mistake(s)', but not 5.

I'm pro-choice.
But, i wont say that i dont have my feelings about those who have multiple abortions as their form of BC. I've come across quite a few people (including 1 very close to me) that have had 4+ abortions and i have a low opinion of them because of it.

Re: abortion poll
Pro-life. I stand up for the rights of the unborn who have no voice. Yes people make mistakes, but there is a life at stake and I don't believe aborting that life is the answer.
And I am someone who helps those who are pregnant and without resources and there are many places that will provide help to those women so abortion is not the answer.

Not my body, not my choice. I personally would not choose abortion, especially as a method of birth control, unless it was for my safety and/or the pregnancy was not viable. However, I would never, ever, tell any woman what she should do with her own body.
I would also never force my feelings on any pro-lifer.
I will never forget the pro-life display on my campus when I was in college, Huge displays and pictures of aborted fetuses. Not something you want to look at when walking back from the dining hall
