Growing up my family had our laundry room in the basement.
My house doesn't have a basement, so we have a seperate laundry room on our first floor. (One of my fave rooms!  )

We're in a front to back split with no basement. Our washer & dryer are in the half bath on the lowest level, just off our den.

We have a mud room when you first enter the house from the garage. That is where it is on the main floor. I hate basements so I wouldn't buy a house with the LR in the basement

Mine is in the basement. It is a huge laundry room and I like it. I wish it was on the bedroom floor so I didn't have to climb up and down the stairs... but the trade off would be that the room itself would be much smaller. My girlfriend has her washer and dryer on the bedroom level - but it basically consists of a washer a dryer and a small shelving system behind bifold doors in an alcove upstairs. I like that I have a nice big area since I seem to have an endless supply of laundry.
Also - my basement is finished - so it isn't scary at all. I would probably be very spooked if I had an unfinished or dark basement!

ours is in the basement.... thats how it was at my parents house growing up, too so i'm totally used to it.
our basement now is nice though- we live in a raised ranch, so the basement is a walk-out basement, that doens't feel so much like a basement.
it would be nice to have them on the same floor as the bedrooms, but i would always worry about any leaks or anything with it being on the second floor.... lol either way, i'm just glad i don't have to go to a laundry mat

do you guys think having the laundry in the bedroom level is a good selling point? My cousin is a realtor and he thinks I should market it as a 5th bedroom when the time comes.
I think he's smoking crack quite frankly.

We really wanted a house that did not have laundry in the basement. I was only willing to entertain the idea of laundry in the basement if the basement were not a full flight down. That's what we got and I still wish we had been able to find a house with laundry on one of the main levels.
