we don't have a basement. my w/d is in my "food room" on the first floor. i wouldn't want it near my bedroom because i often have it running when i go to bed

in a closet next to the bathroom. in my ideal world i would have a separate room for it on the 1st floor, with bedrooms on the 2nd floor. i often run it at night or early, and it would disrupt people (DH) sleeping if it was very close. i would hate it in the basement because basements scare me.

And we actually know when the dryer is about finish...we have it set up that we hear a tone so we know when we to go downstairs. I personally wouldn't want it any other way.

On the first floor, in a mud room off of the kitchen. Growing up it was in the basement (down two flights of stairs), and not that I did much laundry, but my mom always comments on how lucky I am to have a w/d one flight of stairs down from the bedrooms.

ours is in the basement. in our old town house it was on the 2nd floor with the bedrooms. so convenient, BUT i would often throw a load of laundry into the dryer at night and with all of the baby clothes that have tons of snaps it was so noisy. our furniture also always seemed to be dusty no matter how often i dusted i think because of lint from the dryer.

Same with me! I could never live without the washer/dryer on the same floor as the bedrooms from now on.

Growing up we had it on the first floor. Unfortunately everywhere we have lived it's been in the basement and I hate it!

my washer & dryer use to be in the basement. right now only the washer works but with the construction we made room for a stackable set up on the main level off the kitchen.

Our home is under construction and when we designed our home with our architect one of my main idea's was putting the washer and dryer in a room with the 4 bedrooms upstairs.
Its all framed out, and the washer and dryer have their own room, right off the master suite, and close to all the bedrooms
Cant wait til its finished!

Nope, my laundry room is located right off my kitchen. We have a little outcove where the pantry is & the side door to our house & the garage. I love it bc I can do laundry while cooking dinner and have the convience of it being close.
Here is a picture of my kitchen & where you see the doorway at the far end of the picture, my washer/dryer are to the right when you walk thru there

Ours is on the main floor (the basement is really just a small finished bedroom) but when we redo the bathrooms upstairs I put making room for it in the linen closet and taking away from the 2nd bath (it's to big for a 2nd bath when their is a master anyway). My parents have it on the same floor as the bedrooms and it was so nice doing laundry there when we were with them for 4 weeks.

On the first floor in a mudroom off the garage.
My bedrooms are upstairs on the 2nd floor and when we were building our GC discouraged us from moving the laundry room upstairs with the bedrooms because if it ever overflows / leaks, you are dealing with MEGA damage to your entire house.
I prefer it on the 1st floor or in the basement.
