Am I a bad mother (with pictures added)
if I let Joseph make his own lunch?
The other day I was in the supermarket with him. He begged to pick his own cereal (he usually gets some kind of oats/grain/raisin thing). I relented & he picked Captain Crunch (he's never had it before). I already got the from DH over Joseph's choice.
Today is his last day of school. He came in with a kid apron on & asked to make his own sandwich. He's done it before but he's never asked for Peanut Butter, Fluff & Capt Crunch.
Peanut Butter = protein right?
I'm sure my dentist is going to love my kids. At least Maddie is safely at daycare eating veggies.
I did clean the Fluff off of his forehead.

I think that qualifies for a GREAT MOM!
You are letting him explore and create something on his own.

DH would be so freaked out by this. He can't even stand when I give them Kraft mac & cheese.

HA! Sounds like my Dh- he envisions me creating organic meals for the kids in the future. Fat Chance!
I wonder how your son found out about this "sandwich"?

That's what I was wondering too...reminds me of Ally Sheedy's sandwich from Breakfast Club. I think he'll live and I think you're a great Mom for letting him spread his wings and enjoy his Captain Crunch sandwich!

Re: Am I a bad mother
I think its awesome he wants to do things on his own. Even if his choices aren't always going to be the healthiest, it definetly shows he is making an effort to be a little independent.

Re: Am I a bad mother
I don't have children, however I have a LOT of little cousins, and I think that your son is just showing his independance. I think it is good that he wants to help you and make his own lunch. That sandwich actually sounds good.
DH and I eat fluff and peanut butter for lunch every once and a while. It is not going to hurt him. I think you are a very good mother for letting him have a little freedom.
And with the Captain Crunch cereal, my mother always let my brother and I pick out 1 cereal we wanted, but bought other healthier cereals along with it. Therefore, we learned that once the good cereal was gone, it was back to the healthier stuff. It used to teach us how to eat it wisely so it would last.

When my sister and I were in kindergarden...we thought we would help mommy and make our own lunch for school. We were so proud of ourselves...from that day forward, mommy told us to make our own lunches everyday
