Another Delivery Day spinoff: your hospital roomate

How was your roomie?

Mine was horrible. She was already there, had a c-section a few days before. She complained ALL the time. Her blood pressure was through the roof, yet she wanted to be discharged, said she'd be more relaxed at home (even though she had a 3 or 4 year old at home too). She literally complained to every nurse, anyone who would listen. They wouldn't discharge her b/c of her blood pressure, and she fought it, brought in her own private doctor to evaluate her, he told her she had to stay until BP was stable. Ugh, annoying. Not to mention her husband used our bathroom numerous times-- um, gross-- what man wants to see the bloodshed in a maternity recovery bathroom anyway?

Annoying...I always wanted a good experiene w/my roomie, I saw so many other nice mommies on the floor, but got stuck with a dud.

DW delivered by C at Stony Brook. No roommates there.

She seems to like her current roommate, though... Chat Icon Chat Icon

In the middle of the night after I delivered I heard my roommate whisper "get me out of here" and she was gone the next time I woke up. Chat Icon And the woman who came in after her was in PAIN! I woke up to her screaming when they brought her in! Chat Icon Supposedly the nurse pushed on her stomach or something after her C section. Chat Icon She was really nice after she got some pain meds for the rest of the time.

With Sarah she was a nightmare. She had a c-section, and there was a complication where she was very heavily hemorrhaging, but the maternity ward was full and she couldn't be moved to a private room. So the nurses checked her every 15 minutes. Chat Icon She was stressed and fighting with her DH. Made him sleep over and then they b!tched when I was trying to breast feed Sarah that they got no sleep and I was being selfish. Chat Icon And her guests kept using my passes so she had a whole room full of guests and the nurses would have to keep asking them to leave so my guests could come in and they wouldn't.

With Andy I had so many roomies. The first night was this lady who insisted on wearing a lace nightgown. It was late June, but she wouldn't let me turn the air on. She wanted it set to 80 degrees, I agreed to 72 and felt like I was sweating to death. The next night there was a woman who had some sort of adverse reaction to the meds or something and she had to be moved to high-risk maternity ward. Then the next woman gave birth at about 30 weeks. I felt awful for her. She just cried and cried. Her DH was in the NICU most of the time and her ILs kept asking her what happened, what had she done to make the baby come early, it was so sad. We were right outside the nurses station so they must've heard and they brought her DH back to deal with his parents.

Re: Another Delivery Day spinoff: your hospital roomate

I was at Stony Brook and everyone had a private room with adjoining bathrooms. I can tell you about the people who I shared the bathtoom with because my room was connected to theirs---

For the first 2-3 nights, there was a very young girl who'd had a C-section and seemed to have a lot of pain. I also had a C-section but she seemed to have more of a problem. She was not up much. I could hear her DH talking a little bit but that is all. Her child may have been in NICU in the beginning??? She still seemed to be in a lot of pain as she was leaving. She was so quiet so there were no issues.

Next person in there came in during the night. They were loud but I was up anyway. Her DH and her baby stayed with her. They were pretty considerate, letting me know when they were done in the bathroom, etc. I accidentlally locked them out of the bathroom and they were understanding. As I was leaving, they had TONS of visitors. That may have gotten crazy but I was on my way out.

First time not very good. It wasn't her fault, she was in a lot of pain. Plus I was more bummed because while I felt perfectly fine, my baby wasn't allowed in the room like hers was. Also she wasn't very clean in terms of sharing a bathroom but as I said she could barely move so I couldn't see her cleaning up the floor.

The second time, I didn't have a roommate. Hospital was empty & my mom befriended the nurses. She told them my first time, the baby was in the hospital for a week. The nurses put every patient in other rooms & left mine unoccupied until after I left.

A NIGHTMARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had to have my room CHANGED cause this chick INSISTED on keeping her SCREAMING newborn in the room ALL NIGHT! She did NOTHING to comfort this baby and cried right along with him. Called the nurse 10 times a night- ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT. And was SCREAMING over the baby's cry. Never in my life did I feel I wanted to hurt another person as much as I wanted to hurt this chick. She thought she was the only person there and didn't give a flippin fluck that I was trying to sleep at 3am. What a disaster! Chat Icon

I was in a room with 3 other people which really wasn't bad since I was only there for 36 hours but I did not like the woman next to me.

They brought DS in to my room for feeding since I was BF...I was the only one doing that. Poor baby was so hungry and my milk took a while to come in so there was lots of crying which I understand that it bothered her but I never complained when her kids came running in, fighting and screaming. I never complained when she would turn the heat off meanwhile I was freezing. She called her husband the next morning to complain about me Chat Icon But never said a word to me about it.

But I also felt really bad for her. Her husband was an a$$ - the day of discharge they found out that their daughter had a heart murmer that was detected right before they were ready to leave so a bunch of doctors were in and out to talk to them. Her husband had the nerve to (very loudly) blame her for it Chat Icon He commented that no one in his family had it so it had to be her fault Chat Icon That was the first comment out of his mouth when the first doctor left the room. So sad

I didn't have a roomate until my very last night.
She just had her baby and they brought her in a little before 10PM
I couldn't get back into the room basically until she was settled (we had just brought DS back to nursery).
I was tired and wanted to go home. LOL. I was pizzed my last night, I ended up with a roomie.
She fell fast asleep..with the TV on. I guess no biggie. Around 3AM the nurse finally came in and turned the TV off.
The next AM she congratulated me and vice versa. She was telling me her baby was in Nicu (I think that was the story?). She was very sweet, but, I was happy to be leaving that day.

I was in the hospital for 5 days because I had a c-section so I had 2.

The first one was actually a sad case. It was a girl that could be no more then 18 years old. No one really came to visit her but someone who I was pretty sure was her mom. She kept calling all of her friends though telling them about the baby and that "Reggie" was going to come any minute now to see them. I assume Reggie was the father of the baby. Well he never showed up the two days she was there and she always walked to the nursery herself to get the baby. Then the day she was leaving her mom came to pick her up and she asked her mom if she would feed the baby and the mom goes "he**s no, you got yourself into this, it's your responsibility now". Gheesh she just wanted to pack up. She was very sweet, but very young. I often wonder how she is doing.

Then I had no one for two days....HEAVEN. And then another lady came in the last night I was there. Very sweet and her family were great too.

So i really can't complain. Plus I was on the side by the window so I didn't have the issue of people passing by me on the way to see the other person.

I had two of them. A young girl was brought in during the night and she was quiet and was gone by Sun morning and never bothered me. The next woman they brought in was crying in pain and did not know or what to do anything for the baby so the baby was always crying when they brought her in until a nurse came to take care of the baby.

Re: Another Delivery Day spinoff: your hospital roomate

I only had a roommate for a few hours b/c I had requested a private room at St. Charles and I delivered at 1am and there wasn't going to be a free room until a little later. The roommate that I had for all of 6 hrs was nice. She said she didn't even hear me come in at 4 am and we chatted briefly in the morning before our DH's came in. I wasn't able to get up at that point so i didn't have to share the bathroom.

DH was my roomate! After reading these posts, I'm glad we went for a private room. It only cost us $50 a night (our insurance covered the rest) and was totally worth it.

Re: Another Delivery Day spinoff: your hospital roomate

I had Bella at like 11 pm, so I didn't get to the room until close to 1:30 am. There was a WAY TOO CHATTY for 2 am girl in the 4 person room who had was miserable because she had to have a C-section and BLAH-BLAH-BLAH...I hadn't slept in three days so I asked the nurse for a percocet and passed out. The next day she had like 20 people in our room that kept staring and being generally nosey...whispering (Bella was in the NICU because I had a fever, so I was going back and forth)

right after dinner the annoying "I had a baby, but it doesn't look like it" woman was spry as a chicken chatting it up with HER ten people.

and late that night The Nanny's MUCH more annoying and nasal sister arrived complaining about her huge hemorroid and difficult birth and how she better get a HUGE diamond outta this.

Needless to say I was desperate to get outta there in the morning.

ETA: I lost the race for the private roomChat Icon

Re: Another Delivery Day spinoff: your hospital roomate

She was annoying. Every time she (or one of her guests) walked past my bed she would pull the curtain with her - so she either closed it or opened it and she never apologized for it or tried to fix it. I understand there wasn't a lot of space to walk, but be aware of what you're doing! And her other kids would visit her during the day and would always be in our bathroom. Then on the second day she was out of the room for most of the day for whatever reason but her mother or someone was sitting waiting for her right outside the bathroom door - which I kept running in and out of because I came down with the stomach virus the day after I gave birth. Later that day I got moved to a private room thankfully, but I've learned enough to know that if I have another child I'm definitely springing for the private room right from the start.

I had 2. The first one was also named Megan. She was very nice and we kind of chatted through the curtain. The next night was a poor girl who had a csection and was in a lot of pain and her baby was in the nicu because of fluid in her lungs. I felt bad for her. It wasn't really that bad, I actually didn't like the nurses.

I had a private room after my cs. I was bummed though b/c DD was in NICU (b/c my water broke over 36 hours prior) & I heard all the other babies in the other rooms. I wanted her there in the worst way.

It was so nice being by myself.

I felt bad for my roomate....I had a c-section, had bronchitis and also high blood pressure due to pre-eclampsia and a fever and a really really bad whooping-like cough. Not to mention I was breast feeding and they brought Kayla in every 2 hrs to feed....
Luckily, she came on my last day there. I was alone for 3 days Chat Icon I bet *I* was the annoying one...Chat Icon
