Any teacher Mommies going to have separation issues when school starts?

Let me just say that I feel incredibly fortunate to have a teaching career in this economic climate and I am very grateful to have had the summer off with DD.

She's just at such a FUN age (9 months). I feel like we have really bonded and it will be more difficult going back than it was after my 12 weeks. We have such a routine, and I love that I have been home to see her do things like standing, saying dada, etc.

I know 2 weeks into the school year it will be fine. I'm just really going to miss her Chat Icon

Im going to be a mess. I will be returning after being home with DS for 15 months. Im trying not to think about it but its already aug 15. I am going to miss him so much!!!

I feel really bad for DS. He is going to be so confused. DH and I both work in schools so he has had us BOTH home all summer. He has really becone attached to daddy.

Ugh!!! I dont want to go back!

DD is 8 months and you are right this age is amazing but because I have been with her all day everyday this summer she freaks when I just even walk out of the room. The only good thing is I will most likely be gone before she wakes up so she won't have that seperation issues. Daddy on the other hand might not have the easiest time lol

of course, absolutely! When I drop them off and then the ride in is the worst. A couple minutes after getting to work im overwhelmed with things to do and it makes it easier.

I agree, it was easier to leave my son at 5 weeks than it is to leave them when theyre older. When they were babies I wasnt missing too much. Now they are starting to talk and do things etc. I feel for you. Chat Icon

Separation issues- absolutely but for me not him. He will be fine. I will be a mess. This is going to be so much harder than going back after maternity leave. I honestly can't even think about it because I get too upset.

Re: Any teacher Mommies going to have separation issues when school starts?

Absolutely! I have been home with DD(4) and DS (4 months) since April. I used to bring DD to a daycare by my work so I would have time with her in the car each day. This year we decided to leave them both home and have DH be a stay at home dad. As much as this situation is going to be beneficial, I can't help but feel jealous. DS is just starting to get into the fun phase. I feel like I am going to miss all his milestones. I am going to miss them both so much.

Re: Any teacher Mommies going to have separation issues when school starts?

ugh my stomach is in knots over this.Chat Icon I'm so sad over it, I've loved this summer so much. But I'm also terribly worried about Riley. I feel she's grown really attached to me. But mostly, I'm worried about her behavior. She's really changed this summer - I guess you could call it the terrible twos. Not just your typical though- she is TOUGH.

Of course it will be difficult, but like OP said, as soon as I get to work, I am bombarded with a hundred things to do, so that makes it easier. I am more worried about her. DH is also a teacher, so she has gotten used to having us both around (although I have been bringing her to daycare once a week so she doesn't totally forget it). And I know I am in the minority, but I don't really mind going back (I think Chat Icon this is my first time going back after the summer, but I didn't mind going back after my maternity leave). I am not cut out to be a full time SAHM. For me, teaching is perfect because of the time off, but working gives me some sanity. My commute, on the other hand, I am NOT looking forward to Chat Icon

I'm fortunate that our moms will be watching DS, but I'm jealous that they will get to spend their days with him. He is so amazing and I'm in love with him! But I think that having family watch him makes it easier as well as knowing that I still get afternoons with him. And like PP said, once the day starts, there is too much to do which is why teaching is a great escape!

Re: Any teacher Mommies going to have separation issues when school starts?

DD will be 6 months and it will be the first time either DH or I wont be there with her and she will start daycare. (for the first 3 months I had off and then DH took off May and June when I went back- both are teachers so we both had off with DD for the summer) I have HIGH anxiety about it and MAJORRR separation issues going on!!!
PLEASEEEE tell me it will be OK- because I am just SOO nervous about daycare- I can't even find the right words to explain what I'm going through Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Any teacher Mommies going to have separation issues when school starts?

It was hard leaving DS last year when he was 10 months old, but 2 weeks into the school year, we were both fine. This year, he's 22 months and it's a whole different thing. He's such a little boy and so much fun!!!! I hate the idea of not spending every waking moment with him. I am, however, looking forward to the freedom of being at work (it's sooooo much easier) so, I have to just remember that in the coming weeks. Yes and no. I will miss them of course. DD is only 4 months and I find it's harder to leave them when they are older and realize you are gone. DS is 3 1/2 and going to school for the first time. I will be a mess (as seen in my other post). At the same time, I could not be a stay at home mom full time. I give SAHM SOOOO much credit. Honestly teaching is the best of both worlds in my eyes!

NO b/c I kept my DD in daycare all summer so she would be on a routine.

I can't even think about it!! DD and I re SO close right now- I feel like we won't be as bonded when I go back. (I know that's just me being crazy!) She's only going to my mom's, but I am heartbroken!!!!!

Re: Any teacher Mommies going to have separation issues when school starts?

Oh definitely yes although I do welcome a sense of routine back into my life. I've been on leave since April and have loved being home for the past 5 months. Watching my son grow and change everyday has been a gift and a blessing and I'm so fortunate to have a job that allows me to have that much time with him. I will miss him terribly everyday and will probably cry the first day I go back (ok...getting teary eyed just thinking about it now), but I know the time apart is good for me and he is being taken care of by my loving parents and in-laws and a family friend...so he's in the best hands possible.

I definitely will! I went back after my maternity leave with less than two months left - it was a breeze getting through that time. I'm going to miss her so much but at the same time I feel like work is so much LESS work than being home so it will almost feel like a break!

Re: Any teacher Mommies going to have separation issues when school starts?

I agree with many posts here. I am very lucky to have a job where I can get a lot of time off; and even luckier that my mom will watch my daughter (11months). My other daughter will continue to go to preschool (4years old). But the thought of going back to work makes me so sad. I have loved having the mornings waking up with both girls, being able to take my 4 year old to school and pick her up; and spend quality time with my 11 month old. I know once I get back in a routine things will be fine. But I know those first few days will be filled with tears. My mind at work is always on the girls and how they are doing. So you are not alone. Good luck to everyone!!!
