Re: Anyone else a little annoyed at seeing the doc every month?
Never. I love going to the doc to see how much the baby grew from my last visit, and to make sure I'm up to date on all my testing.
If your annoyed now, wait until the baby is born!!

Re: Anyone else a little annoyed at seeing the doc every month?
Doesnt bother me one bit. I love hearing my twin heartbeats!!!!!
I actually have to go do the doctor alot more since its twins!! I have to go to get my cervix checked every two weeks, then I have to go for a growth sonogram every 4 weeks and in between that I am seeing my OB every two weeks.
When I picked my doctor I wanted one with long night hours so my DH could come with me to the appts.

Re: Anyone else a little annoyed at seeing the doc every month?
*SIGH*
Ok, maybe I didn’t make myself clear.
I WANT to spend time with my baby. As much time as humanly possible. So I don’t want to waste my work days yet. I want to see it progress normal and healthy and AGAIN to just make it crystal.
MY BABY’S HEALTH IS PRIMARY
What concerns me is #1: My doc’s office is only open 9am to 4pm most days and I work in the City and he’s in Commack. #2: No one at the doctors office really gives me a good explanation as to why I have to go every month. Instead they treat me like a child who just doesn’t understand. FINE then explain it to me. #3: I have read here that nothing really happens at some of these visits and since I know he doesn’t do u/s and he has to wait for results why do I have to see him and the u/s ppl on the same day?
I do not want to take a whole day off, but I have to if it’s a mid morning appt. I do not want to tell my office yet, but this is getting tough I did take a day off last Thursday for my 8 week appt, no biggie. I will take a day off the 29th for both my u/s and reg doc visit.
I’m very aware of the time involved in a child. I maybe on my first but I literally helped raise three (twins and a little girl) from 3months up. I have never implied my child will be a burden in my life! To even imply this is slightly infuriating and kind of insulting.
Lastly, I don’t know why I get the feeling people aren’t understanding that I do want this child and I am happy to be pregnant but I am terrified to be as gun-ho as you guys are. I am scared crapless of miscarriages. NO ONE not the doctors, not me, not any living soul can ever guarantee that I won’t lose this child. I’m not out of the woods at 8weeks. Nothing is celebrated, because I’m afraid to lose it. Then I’ll remember all the joy and the loss is more, so I am keeping reserved. I refer to it as the creature within and that’s MY nickname for it. Sorry I don’t like peanut or whatever you guys use. I don’t really give a damn about God and I don’t give him much credit. I hope that it all works out with Mother Nature on my side. These doctors have modern science (which of course I believe in) but at the end of the day …
NO ONE makes that choice but Nature.
Can you see why I am just a little nervous and a little uncomfortable seeing the doctor every month? I just want to know it’s healthy and me too. No need to harass me without a valid reason. Give me a clear picture of “this is when we do…” and I’ll be satisfied. “Just because” doesn’t cut it for me. My personality doesn’t work like that.
I can’t be the only one who thinks like this. I just need more….. INFORMATION.
I am NOT the only woman alive to ever have a child now or in the past or the future. I won’t flip out and worry if you tell me every detail. I don’t think I’ll assume miscarriage at every turn but no info is worse than anything. What’s the big secret why can’t I know what you plan to do, why do you need to see me. WHATS GOING ON??!?!?!

Re: Anyone else a little annoyed at seeing the doc every month?
I think maybe you should consider a new DR. If the hours do not work for you and they are not explaining what is being done, it does not sound like a good fit.
most people are scared of something bad happening, but you have to learn to not let it consume you. the stress definitely is not good for you or the baby.

Are you very happy w/your current OB because based on the office availability and the staff it sounds like they are not suited to your needs. Perhaps you need to find a different Dr.
ETA: The purpose of every Dr's appointment is to look for any signs of complications. Even the healthiest pregnancies can develop complications quickly.

It does sound like your doctor hasn'tr been helpful explaining things. Why not look for someone in NYC?

I agree...
I know that's its tough working and making doctor's appointment but you have to go to them...even though it may sound uneventful they check your weight, blood pressure and urine every time you go as well as answers any questions that you may have.
By checking your weight, blood pressure and urine they can find problems that may come up during pregnancy for ex: Preeclampsia. or if you have an UTI (which I have had 3 times without any symptoms).
If you have not gotten the book What to expect when you are expecting it explains what happens at the doctors as you go.

I agree. It doesn't really sound like this doctor meets your needs. Most doctors have at least one day with evening hours.
When I decided to get pregnant, I switched doctors because I wasn't happy with the hospital that I would deliver in. It was scary, but I wanted a doctor who would meet all of my needs. And I found one through a recommendation of a friend.
Hopefully you will have a healthy pregnancy and you will need to go to the doctor every two weeks towards the end. You need to find a doctor with office hours that work for you.

Re: Anyone else a little annoyed at seeing the doc every month?
Honestly, the appointments get really boring -- pee in a cup, take blood pressure, listen to heartbeat.
But, trivial as that may seem pre-enclempsia can sneak up on -- you might not feel any different, but checking for things like protein in your urine or high blood pressure might save you and your baby's life (sorry to be dramatic). That's why you go so often.
Can you get weeked appointments? I always scheduled my appointments for first thing in the morning before the office would get backed up.
ETA: Schedule as many appointments as you can in advance so you have your pick of times.

I agree! These monthly appointments are done in order to check your health and that of your baby. I understand that working in the City and having a doctor's appointment in Commack is a bit of a hassle, but if you book your appointments early enough, you can maybe get a 1st appointment in the morning or the last appointment of the day, that way you don't lose an entire day.
Also, you can find another office that has later appointments or even Saturday appointments. Maybe the staff and doctors are your current office aren't the right ones for you.
We're all in this together, some of us are more scared or emotional than others, but coming on here helps put most of us at ease and we find solace in numbers. I don't know what I wouldn't do without the ladies on here!

Re: Anyone else a little annoyed at seeing the doc every month?
I live in westchester and work in Brooklyn and I chose a doctor in the city because it was on the way to work and in between home and work. I know it is a pain, but see if you can find a doctor close to your work with better hours. I totally understand not wanting to use sick days. It does get stressful. See if you can see if you can work something out with your job that if you come in late you can make it up.

That is SO true. I was talking to a woman at the store the other day and she lost her baby when she was 8 months pregnant because of pre-eclampsia. It is so scary!!

Re: Anyone else a little annoyed at seeing the doc every month?
I definitly think you need to find a new doctor with better hours. You also want someone who will answer all your questions and treat you with respect.
It sounds like a big part of what you are feeling is coming from fear. You are correct that no one, not even a doctor can guarantee you will not miscarry. However, regular visits will help them diagnose many issues earlier.

Re: Anyone else a little annoyed at seeing the doc every month?
I think you need to find a doctor that's more fitting to your needs. If the hours don't work for you and you have to take time off that you'd rather have when the baby is here then you need to find a doctor that fits in your schedule and a doctor that explains things more to you. My doctor takes pregnancy appointments at 7:30 in the morning. There are plenty of doctors out there that have weekend appointments.

I just changed my app't earlier today because I want to go earlier. I love hearing the heartbeat and assessing our health.
I hate waiting in the waiting room and parking at the office like everyone else but....

Re: Anyone else a little annoyed at seeing the doc every month?
I'm high risk so I'm at a doctor's office be it OB or Maternal medicine doc - at least every 2 weeks. What's helped me is that my doctor does have an office in the town I work in. The high risk doctor is also in the same town. It does help to have a doctor close by your work or maybe with more than one office (so that they are also close to home). I know that's not always possible, Commack to NYC is very far so I feel for ya there. Hopefully work understands... personally I like being able to take off a little early, but that's just me.
Hang in there... I too didn't jump for joy until I knew I was fairly "out of the woods" once I hit the second trimester I felt a little more at ease, but even finding out the gender to me is TMI about an unborn child who still has ways to grow development wise... and considering I'll only be truly thrilled when I deliver a healthy baby. That's when the real jumping for joy will start, but try to enjoy as much as you can. Everyone handles pregnancy differently so there's no right or wrong way and having a doc with difficult hours/location only makes it harder.

Re: Anyone else a little annoyed at seeing the doc every month?
what I find interesting is that we have the same exact DR and yet he always explains things in detail to me. For example... what going to happened at each visit and why it's being done and the importance of it.
If I had 3 hrs worth of questions he would answer them all.

Re: Anyone else a little annoyed at seeing the doc every month?
It sounds from your longer post that maybe your doctor isn't listening to your (very valid) need for clarity and explanations. I know you just scheduled a whole bunch of appointments, but maybe it's worth meeting with another doctor and seeing if they hear your concerns more. I don't know much about your situation...just a thought
