I know I will eventually have to go a lot, but I just realized that my dr's office hours are 8:30am - 4:30pm Monday - Friday. Jeez - I am going to use ALL of my vacation time before Chat Icon or Chat Icon arrives!

Re: Anyone else a little annoyed at seeing the doc every month?

With each appt. they test your urine...and one of the tests is to see if there is protein in your urine. If you do, its a sign of some complications (preeclampsia). I had that at 36 weeks and was thankful my appts were weekly at that time. I had to have my son that day by emergency c-section (I aslo had HELLP syndrome along with it) and needed two transfusions of platelets. The baby was fine the whole time, but if left untreated my condition could have detoriated even further and put my life in danger. So they are checking things (blood pressure is also important to monitor as well).

I make my appointments for Saturdays or after work. For my first trimester screenign I went in the mornign and went to work afterward. I have not taken time off for any of my appointments so far.

Re: Anyone else a little annoyed at seeing the doc every month?

I had to go every other week from very early on, so I would DEFINITELY ask your Gyn to get a late night appointment so you are not losing so many days. Also, ask if you make several months worth of appointments at once so that you are more likely to get a good schedule for your needs.Chat Icon

I dont love the waiting room but I do love the visits because for me it lets me know everything is still ok. And I never schedule when I have work, the only 2 days I took off were for ultrascreens and then I just took 1/2 days.. u can def make appointments after work

I go every week now, going tomorrow. Although at those visits they actually check to see if there is any progression (internals).

The monthly thing was really annoying though because I could tell them how I feel over the phone. I do understand thought that they need to hear the heartbeat to make sure it is consistant. I too had to make late appointments.

I think it's very important to hear the heartbeat and make sure everything is ok with the baby. The more times the better IMO!

I love going to appointments...it's so reassurring to hear the baby's heartbeat. I just schedule my appointments first thing in the morning so, at worst, I get to work a little late.

Re: Anyone else a little annoyed at seeing the doc every month?

I scheduled my appointments for early in the day so I could go before work. Towards the end I went on my lunch hour. Once your office knows you're pregnant they'll probably be more accommodating re: long lunches/leaving early etc. for appointments. My supervisor told me to NOT take time off for my appointments and just make up the time by sacrificing my lunch hour(s).

I understand you don't like doctors - neither do I - but you need to rethink your "annoyance." Your urine sample and blood pressure measurement might seem like nothing but if something is wrong that's how they will be able to tell. If you see the doctor less frequently a problem can get out of control before they're even aware of it.

Wait until it's every week. Chat Icon

Seriously, I made all my regular check ups for after work . I think I used one personal day for a ultrasound and half days for other ultarsounds. It was never a problem with my boss.

Ditto for me. If you schedule the appts. far enough in advance they should be able to fit you in in the evenings.

I loved going every month it wasn't often enough to ease my mind that all was ok!

now I am at every 2 weeks and soon 1 a week.

Doesn't your office have PM or weekend hours so you don't need to take off work????

You're in for a long pregnancy if you're "annoyed" at 8w with the idea of going to the doctor every month Chat Icon

The doctors have better things to do than see you "just to see you". Every appointment exists for a reason. Your blood pressure is taken, hb listened to, weight measured, urine samples taken... And there are actually only 2 appts that I can think of (16 and 24w) where they only do these things.

Babies and children need to see doctors very often as well - I hope you're over your annoyance by the time you get to that point.

Well said.

I look forward to the appointments - it's incredible to hear the heartbeat.

My appointments are scheduled first thing in the morning and I go to work right after. I can't imagine taking the entire day off just for a Dr's appt - seems wasteful. Chat Icon

Ok, so I just scheduled my entire pregnancy up to the last 6 weeks.
They gave me 6pm appts all the way through July. Now if only I could figure out the u/s. That’s next.

So far I have my 12wk u/s set for Feb 29th.

Re: Anyone else a little annoyed at seeing the doc every month?

If it makes you feel any better I go twice a week - been that way since 32 weeks! I am also diabetic, so that is why, but I haven't had one complication (knock on wood) and I the majority of my friends and women on this board who are/were pregnant seem to have much more difficult pregnancies. It does get a little annoying to see the doctor all the time, but maybe that is why I have been so relaxed during this pregnancy. My boss is beginning to get a little annoyed, but I make my appointments early in the morning and if necessary stay a little late.

Re: Anyone else a little annoyed at seeing the doc every month?

It never bothered me to go in and get to see or hear the baby. Not to mention the fact that I went into preterm labor at 32 weeks, and having to see the doctor became necessary for mine and the baby's health.

I love going to my appointments. Hearing my baby's heartbeat and knowing that he/she is Ok and we reached another milestone together is the greatest feeling in the world!

As far as using your sick leave, try to schedule them early in the mornings, or in the evening after work. I go during my lunch hour.
