Poor choice of wording on my part. But I thank you for asking me what I meant by that statement instead of assuming it meant something it did not.
I ended up deleting and taking it to FM because I didn't want to come off as antagonzing you when I was genuinely curious (and because it's SO not a fashion-y question  ) but thanks for clarifying.

I hated the pregnant look but there is nothing else to wear so i kinda got used to it.

Not only do I think the styles are horrible, so does my husband.
He hates when I come home from shopping with loose tops, and dresses that look like a colorful potato sack.
He likes my body and wants to see more of it. All this loose stuff might be comfy to wear, but it's a turn-off for my husband. And to he ll with the feminist movement, I actually do consider my husband's opinon when I get dressed! If he thinks I look frumpy, then I start to feel frumpy.
ITA. Last week I went to an event with DH. When I asked him what he thought of my potato sack, yet cute, dress, he said, "I think that style from the Hills makes all girls look bigger than they are". He wasn't saying I am fat, but that this style makes girls look wide!
I tried on 3 other dresses, and ended up wearing the potato sack dress because I wanted to look trendy. I ended up getting a bunch of compliments on the dress, but I think I would hesitate to wear it again.
I cannot wait until WAISTS are BACK IN!

I have been compaining about this for MONTHS now!! The baby doll tops have never looked good on me and I am DONE with the sack dresses! I'm sticking with beaters, shorts and wrap dresses until this look blows over. Grrr!

ITA. i am petite (short and thin) so i can get away with them and not look preggo.
in re: to the original question, i do agree that many of the styles lack shape and style. however, i buy anyway and have them altered so they are more figure flattering (babydolls included).

I love the new style shirts that remind me of the maternity clothes my mom wore in the 70's. I will never wear a sack dress but the 70's shirts rock!

My mom just complained about the empire waist...she said for younger women it makes them look pregnant, but for older woman - just fat.
She actually made a faux pas at a wedding and assumed someone was pregnant (wearing an empire dress) - but she is hoping that the woman was drunk and doesn't remember!
