Re: Anyone else planning on using cloth diapers?
I also thought I would mention that I am using Thirsties when Baby R is a newborn. Bum Genius fits well at 8-10lbs or more but for a newborn, I am just going to order the XS size.

Re: Anyone else planning on using cloth diapers?
My DH actually has been researching it and brought it up
I was SHOCKED!!!!!
We are considering it. I hate that diapers are so bad for the enviroment and I don't like the chemicals on babys Bum!
THere is a diaper service around us. They don't use very gentle detergents. THe diapers are washed 3 X in EXTREMELY HOT water. THe diapers are also "SPot checked" every month by an outside agency to test for bacteria and cleanliness and they have great reviews. They have been in buisiness near us for over 50 years!
We'll see what happens.......

Re: Anyone else planning on using cloth diapers?
ME!!! I have been researching this for a long time now and have decided to start with Kissaluvs fitteds and various covers to try. I also have prefolds to try out (and to use a burp cloths of course!) I have a bunch of g-diapers, but I wouldn't use their liners (very $$)- I plan on stuffing them with either prefolds or liners I will make myself. I also want to try out the BumGenius and then decide what to buy for the next size up. DH is totally on board so I'm really hoping it works out! Check out diaperswappers.com- I have found a TON of useful information on there as well as bought a lot of my diapers from them. Its nice to see so many people trying it! I felt like I was the only one

Re: Anyone else planning on using cloth diapers?
Hi Megan-
I orderd some Kissaluv's today (size 0)and I am using the Thirsties cover (size XS). I ordered just a couple of those to see how I like them and I ordered the Thirsties Fitted to see how those compare.
I order all my diapers right now from Cotton Babies
My understanding is that the Bum Genius should take you all the way through potty training. I have ordered a few of those to check them out as well. I think they will be my "main diaper" but I am still undecided on what to do for a newborn.
So excited more people are cloth diapering!!

Re: Anyone else planning on using cloth diapers?
I found a site that has videos of the various diapers. It also has a gift registry if you want to set one up.

Jeannine - what a fabulous idea!! A diaper registry
Does anyone know if you can buy cloth diapers in a store anywhere? I just ordered a bunch of diapers so I can see the differences but I would love if there was a place I could go and try them all out without having to buy them first.

Unfortunately, I haven't found a local place that sells cloth diapers. I did come across this website, though, that lets you try all different types of diapers for $10. It might be a good way to try things out before committing.
In my experience, pocket diapers are the way to go with older babies. I started cloth when DS was around 4 months old and really only liked the pockets. The fitted and pre-folds might work well for newborns, though, since newborns aren't wiggly on the changing table.
I ordered medium Fuzzi Bunz and DS wore them from 4 months all the way until he was 17 months (we started potty training then and did away with the diapers), so they have a long shelf-life. However, mediums are probably too big for newborns.
Here's the link
