Anyone has any advice about getting a good deal on a car rental?
We are trying to rent a car in PA in July for 6 weeks and can't find anything reasonable. It seems that even with the most basic, small car it will be $1000, give or take a few 
Anyone has any tips about car rentals, any deals, coupons, things like that? Am I not looking in the right places or is that what it is these days?

Not sure of whether or not it will work for you -- but after searching high and low, the cheapest car rental we found for a trip to FL this summer...was on Expedia.com

Call the location directly.
They are more likely to negotiate with you than a 1-800 number.

I usually rent through Costco or BJs (we are members but, they have never checked our membership cards).
I have also rented through Priceline and got a good deal.

price line.com!!!! I've done rentals with them for less than $20 per day every time!!!!

I have heard of people who have done the "name your own price" on priceline and gotten a car for as little as $11 per day.

If you're renting for 6 WEEKS(is that right?) You should check out a long term rental. I know Rent a wreck does this-what a horrible name! Budget, Enterprise..I would call them all and then compare what you can get on Hotwire or priceline. I actually heard on the radio that all these auction sites have message boards where people share what deals they got

Us too. I think we have gotten it as low at $15 a day for a 14 day rental while on vacation (for a midsize car).

priceline.com name your own price. I just rented a car in Virginia Beach from Friday-Monday for $12 dollars a day. Mid sized. I have everyone doing it

Check out mouse savers
Ever since our last trip to Disney I have used the codes on this website to get by far the cheapest deal. You can become a southwest airlines reward member (for free) and that can save you over 20% as is! Mess around with the different codes for the different companies.. the possibilities are endless!
If you do book with BJs or Costco, make sure you bring your membership card with you! They will ask for it!
