Anyone in law enforcement - weird question
The other day when DH's car got hit in a parking lot, he was standing outside the car waiting for the police to arrive. When the cop showed up, the very first thing he said to DH was "are you on the job?" We both are, actually (not police, but law enforcement), but there is nothing on the car to show that, and DH wasn't in uniform.
So unless it had something to do with our last name, why would the officer ask this?
It was just funny to me, that's all - and the officer was super nice, he wasn't being a d!ck at all, it sounded like he just *knew* - thoughts?

could he have run the plate at that point or no??? Just grasping at straws.., maybe Danny has that "on the job" look about him...  yeah i have no idea.... carry on.

Maybe it's just something that he sensed. I know personally, that I can sometimes "tell" when someone is a cop.

DH says he can always tell. Does DH wear his hear short (military style)? that is usually DH's first clue and he will ask.

Yup, his head is shaved. He does have a kind of intimidating look - I always tell him that

DH can always point out a fellow cop in the room. I dont get it but he's always right! He gets asked a lot too if he's a cop.

I know that PO cars are tagged with a code. So, when you run a PO's license plate, it shows they are in law enforcement.
It may be that your DH's plate is coded, and he ran the plate.

I know that PO cars are tagged with a code. So, when you run a PO's license plate, it shows they are in law enforcement.
It may be that your DH's plate is coded, and he ran the plate.
I don't think that's it, because when he pulled up, he couldn't see the plate yet - DH was standing off to the side and the cop pulled up next to him. He couldn't have seen the plate from the street because of all the snow.
I think DH probably just looks like a cop

My DH has been asked SO many times if he's a cop. He definitely has the "cop look", if there is one.
The funny part is, he's the furthest thing from one... he works in IT, lol!!!

it's just an appearance - an air, almost. people often ask my Dad the same question and he's never been in LE at all, its just the way he carries himself.

We were at a party and a friend of the host saw my DH and said "He looks like he's a cop." The guy who said this was a cop himself, and said he could just "tell" but the look.
DH does the same thing, he can look at someone and kind of just know or assume they are in law enforcement as well.

This is absolutely correct... DH is a Nassau Hwy cop... there is no code... although it would be nice if there was!

I never heard of this. DH and I have both been pulled over and they never knew he was a cop.
