I honestly cannot afford it. DS would love it. But it's not in the cards

Re: Anyone NOT do Disney, or not planning to?

DH and I swore we would never go and we may have stuck with that if my parents didn't plan (and pay for) a trip for all of us to go.

They went all out with the hotel, meal plan, etc. and let me tell you... it was an amazing vacation!

DS had major meltdowns there but it seems to be "normal" for some reason. He just turned 5 a few weeks before when we went. But he absolutely LOVED it!

After such a wonderful time, DH and I have thought about going back but we cant afford to stay in that hotel again and all the bells and whistles so we just haven't planned it again.

Point is, if money isn't an issue, I would say GO! I became a reformed Disney person Chat Icon

I think it's so much more than people think it is vacation wise. There is so much to do, aside from the parks even.

Anyone NOT do Disney, or not planning to?

We have been quite frequently but never get crazy with the planning. We just go with the flow....we do rides as we feel. Usually we do off peak September ish IMO is the best time to go.

ETA: We always do Disney on the cheap too..it's been one of our cheaper vacations. We usually stay at the values and go when they have the free meal plans. It's never cost us an arm and a leg and we enjoy every minute of it.

Anyone NOT do Disney, or not planning to?

I am 40 years old and have only been 3x in my entire life and the first time I went I was 26.

I never knew the difference. We took other vacations because that is what my parents wanted to do. My parents are 70 and went to magic Kingdom for the first time when they were 69.

IMO the kids will not miss it if they don't know any better.

If she is asking why would you think she wouldn't like it? 7 is a great and easy age to travel to disney with. I have relatives who swore their kids did not have any interest in Disney and would hate it, they wound up going and they all had a great time. I think people get caught up in the planning and it gets overwhelming for parents. You don't have to do it like that. I have been 3 times in the last few years and we have never really planned everything out and had a great time. Chat Icon

I have to say I agree with this. I could be wrong but if she is asking could it be you really don't want to go (which is ok). But if you might want to go and really are nixing it bc you think she might not like it. Why don't you order the free DVD planning video, show her some things on YouTube and see if it interests her. I hear all the time we are going just to go, then they come home and say how much they loved it.

Try to avoid Christmas week, spring break or thanksgiving IF you can. Also try to go for longer period of time. You can break it up better, spend less times running, more time out of the parks swimming or relaxing, boat rentals, carriage rides, bike rides, mini golf. There are so many things to do that are outside the parks as well. The ones I know who found it more stressful tried to go commando ( rope drop to close and see all four parks in four days.

I take my kids bc I love how excited they get, how their eyes light up, how they remember more about those trips than our cruises or other trips. No your kids won't be deprived but I think it is one of those things that should be done at least once.

Re: Anyone NOT do Disney, or not planning to?

I'm on the fence about Disney. My DD#2 has some sensory processing issues and has a hard time with crowds, over stimulation and people dressed up as characters. So why spend the money for her and therefore the restof the family to be miserable. We tend to dislike most Disney shows and movies (Frozen scared said child). I think there are other things families can do for fun locally and away. At some point I would like to take them to see at least 1 US state a year. For now we enjoy Long Island.
