Anyone planning on cloth diapering??
I may be in the minority here..... We are planning on cloth diapering and I have been doing a TON of research, cause well, That's what I do
I was wondering if any other moms we planning on cloth diapering we can start a thread. I'm no pro at it but I've figured out a lot of stuff and have founds great places where to order stuff so I figured I'd throw it out there and see who is interested.....
If not, Well........ I'll go back to eating my "granola bars" in the corner

Re: Anyone planning on cloth diapering??
i am totally interested in this, but unsure how it will work.... in one sense, the un-biodegradable waste is a huge negative, but so is all the water waste as well as the huge amount of time involved in cleaning.
would you mind sharing some of the information you have found? cost? etc.? as much as like the idea, all the laundry that will have to be done makes me

Re: Anyone planning on cloth diapering??
ok well here are our rasonings for doing it.
1) MUCH better for babies skin. There are chemicals in spopsie (disposable diapers) that are actually banned in all European nations, not in teh US though, and they are cancer causing agents. 2) less incidence of rashes and yeast infections with cloth 3) spopsies take over 500 years to breakdown 4) even when washing using the water is much better than leaving tons of garbage that won't decompose. water can be cleaned and recycled. 5) less chances of "blow outs" andleak throughs when using cloth
yes, there is laundry involved but its really not that bad. there are different methods and types of cloth diapers but we are starting out simple using prefolds ( cloth that you fold around the baby and secure using a "clip" called a snappi or you can use baby pins. Then you put on a diaper cover, which come in an assortment of adorable covers.
We are buying enough pre folds and covers (which are reusable) snappis, diaper pail bag etc to cloth our newborn for the first 3 months or so for $150.We are buying enough to only have to wash every 2-3 days. You can spend less if you wash more often. All of this we can save for outr next child or you can re-sell the pre folds and covers and buy the next sizes.
This is a basic run down. If you want I have TONS of articles on the health and enviromental benefits of cloth diapering. An AMAZING forum all on cloth diapering and tons of resources on where to buy stuff!!!

Re: Anyone planning on cloth diapering??
I don't but my girlfriend now has 4 children and she has used cloth diapers on all of them. She also EBF. She said these are some of the reasons she can continue to afford to have more children. She plans on having at least 2-3 more.

Re: Anyone planning on cloth diapering??
I am so cloth diapering and have a pretty decent stash already. I too have done way too much research and also belong to a cloth diapering thread. I am actually super excited to start when this little comes. Yeah people give me funny looks when I tell them, but I ignore them.

Re: Anyone planning on cloth diapering??
I am also using indian prefolds and snappies. I am using prowraps, bummis super whisper wraps and thirsties wraps. I also go a number of AIO and a few pockets from a WAHM mom on Etsy. I bought some Kushies that I ordered from Walmart and some BV - Tie folds from Fantsy Pants (these are my favorite, they are bamboo velour prefolds with ties. So very soft but so expensive).

Re: Anyone planning on cloth diapering??
The majority of my stash are prefolds, but I knew I needed to get something easier for DH. Also once Daycare kicks in they will also need to use something that mimic disposables.

Ahh yes, My DH is pretty good so far at the "jelly roll" and isn't going to be going to daycare so I wasn't as concerned with that!
Cool!

Re: Anyone planning on cloth diapering??
Possibly I might borrow a set of cloths from one of my friends...I think its easier with newborns than with older kids, but thats just my opinion. My local council will help me with the cost of cloth nappies, so I might do it.
I also might just do pampers...we will see how it goes.

Re: Anyone planning on cloth diapering??
So funny you brought this up - I was just on diaperswappers getting info on how knit longies!
YES!!! We are cloth diaperers (this will be our 2nd in cloth). I have become completely obsessed with building the "perfect newborn stash." I didn't start with DS until he was about 4 months old and only did pockets with him, so I'm going nuts with this little guy -- prefolds, fitteds, wool covers -- I'm totally out of control. Look what I bought yesterday.
ETA: We should start a thread -- I think people will be amazed at how cute and fun (yes, I said cute AND fun referring to diapers!) cloth diapering is! Image Attachment(s):

Re: Anyone planning on cloth diapering??
Maria -- you're having a girl, you have to do skirties!! I was afraid of wool the first time around, but am taking the plunge this time. I have a Loveybums crepe wool wrap in Newborn and a crepe and jersey wool wrap in size Medium. I can't knit, but MIL is going to knit some longies for me.
I'm so proud of you for being so economical with your stash so far, I'm having a terrible time staying in my limits.
Here's what I have so far:
12 GMD newborn prefolds 24 GMD infant prefolds 3 GMD infant fitteds 6 Snugglebottoms fitteds
2 BabyBehinds One-Size fitteds 1 Cuddlebuns One-Size fitted 5 BumGenius One-Size pocket (from DS)
My covers: 1 NB Superbrite 1 NB Imse Vimse Organic cotton 2 X-small Thirsties 2 NB Dappi Pull-ons 1 LoveyBum wool Crepe
1 small superbrite 1 small super whisper wrap 1 Med LoveyBum wool crepe 1 Med LoveyBum wool jersey
I also have 6 medium Fuzzibunz from DS.
I'm trying to put a stop to my buying until baby is here, but it is so hard -- there's so much great stuff out there!
