Re: Are you changing your plans and routines because of coronavirus?
People watch too many shows and movies about things like this and believe it. The media knows this.

Nope. Worrying never stopped anyone from dying, but it will definitely stop you from living. Remember SARS? H1N1? Swine flu? Bird flu? Ebola? Go search old threads on here and see the usual panic ensue. And then.....nothing. Some people aren't happy unless they are panicking and worried though. I'm on a train right now from Penn Station. I'll let you know if I die....
ETA...those masks everyone is wearing aren't effective. The sides aren't sealed.
Wash your hands. Don't touch your face. Watch this. common sense advice Go have a drink or smoke some pot. This too, shall pass. And then I will come here a few months later and bump this thread and the other ones about the end of the world that never came to pass....
Lmaoooooo I’ll let you know if I die Lmaooooooooo
Still alive. Fyi.

A woman in her mid 30s who caught it while traveling in Iran. She is quarantined in her home recovering. Sounds like she is fine

I’m annoyed that Target was all out if hand sanitizer because people are nuts. I just needed more for normal use and now I’m SOL.

No, there's no hand sanitizer to be found, even Amazon was picked clean. And the price gouging has begun.

Are you changing your plans and routines because of coronavirus?
The only thing I would change would be traveling to another country, only because I wouldn't want to be under quarantine. Otherwise, the only thing I'm neurotic about is stomach bugs, so I will continue that as usual.
I can understand people who are immune compromised, elderly, or people who have newborns being concerned.

Someone on FB suggested adding rubbing alcohol to aloe gel. If you can find either right now. But it's an option.

Are you changing your plans and routines because of coronavirus?
The confirmed NY case is a woman who lives in Manhattan, who recently returned from a trip to Iran. It is reported she is not experiencing severe symptoms, and is expected to fully recover. I am always cautious in the winter when it comes to my kids health- the flu, stomach bugs, strep. This is just one more thing that I need to be on top of, but I am not by any means panicked about it. A majority of the people who get it will make a full recovery.

Same. I'm more worried about the stomach virus and flu then coronavirus.
I travel into the city 4 days a week and the first thing I do when I get into the office is wash my hands. That is the most effective way of preventing most contagious illnesses.

I'm not paranoid but I have stocked up on extra food uhh case we are forced to stay home. I don't want to panic if they put the state on lockdown. Not that I think they will di that but IF they do, I dnt want to deal with supermarket crap.

Which is good. I’m glad she knew what to do but not many people don’t. When I have a cold, I quarantine myself lol honestly ... I move to the guest room, remove all hand towels and use paper towel. Also Lysol all things my hands touch on the daily. Doing this, my husband has almost never caught what I had.
But most people don’t. They down DayQuil and NyQuil and spread that shit like wildfire. That’s the issue. Personally, I’m in decent health. No major issues. But we have an uncle with Cancer who is currently getting chemo. So there’s a connection to someone who is immunocompromised. Unfortunately many Long islanders have that close connection w people in the same situation. So if I can avoid large crowds, planes, etc until there’s some sort of “control” or more understanding, I’ll stay local and wash the shit out of my poor hands

The mortality rate for coronavirus is much higher than the flu.
SARS has a higher mortality rate- 10% to coronavirus's 2%. And no vaccine or treatment. I'm also not concerned about SARS.

But you work from home, correct? If I stayed home for the duration of every cold, plus the duration of any cold my kids get—I would never leave the house again. I get a 4 week lingering cough after a cold from the damn post nasal drip.

Yes. I work from home for my main job. But with our retail business, I go in to work and work with the general public. When I’m sick and I cannot avoid going in, I warn all employees I’m sick. Then use the same pen and pencil and 1 of the portable phones for appointment setting. When I use the restroom, I use a paper towel to open and close doors as well as turning. The light on and off. And Lysol the shit out of everything. I take all illness seriously. I see how fast shit spreads and it disrupts everything. If I have a fever? I stay home. Someone will cover me. My well-being and the well being of our staff is important to me.
ETA: the left over cough is of no concern. I also have that. The post nasal drip starts from now til winter anyway lol. It’s actually being sick w a spreadable illness.

Yup, I'm annoyed. I've been buying the Purrell alcohol wipes in the individual packets for years for school. Out of stock or marked up triple.

This is crazy. Locking down a state. They don't do that for the flu, which is way more rampant. Crazy.

Im not educated on this woman in particular, but i just wonder how long she has been back, potentially walking around with the disease spreading it without knowing she had it. You can carry it for like 10 days before the first symptom shows up. That is what is scary because it is SUPER contagious. Im not scared about the death rate, just the amount of people and community spread.

I believe they said she was in isolation from the time she got back- she probably knew she had been in contact with it over in Iran.
