Re: BAKED french toast recipe
I make a variation of this every year for Christmas. Only on Christmas.
grease a baking pan and line with sliced challah bread (my slices are about 1 1/2 inches thick)
mix together 6 eggs, 3/4 cream, 3/4 cup of - milk and 2 teaspoons of vanilla.
pour liquid mixture over bread and let it set in fridge over night.
The next day melt 1 1/3 cups of brown sugar, 3/4 cups of butter and 3 tablespoons of corn syrup in small sauce pan.
Pour this over the top of the bread that's been soaking over night.
Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.
YUMMY!!! It's too good to share.

Re: BAKED french toast recipe
ok twist my arm but why did my french toast come out so dry on top?? Did I need more liquid? Also, I am in love with Zomicks Challahs but the shop was out and the bread wasn't as "eggy" as Zomicks...
This sauce is so amazing you can put it on a spoon and eat it or put it on vanilla ice cream too!
2 tbs all purpose flour 1 lge can evaporated milk 1/2 stick butter 1/2 c sugar 1/2 c brown sugar 1 tsp vanilla extract Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and cook over low heat stirring until thickened.
Enjoy! Eat slow!

Re: BAKED french toast recipe
thanks! I am going to try this on something very soon!
Did you have a lot of slices of French Toast? The recipe I made allowed for a regular tablespoon of syrup per piece of bread. Did you let the bread/egg mixture soak over night?

Re: BAKED french toast recipe
Quick question- If you use challah, do you do 1 layer or stack the bread up to the top of each other?

Re: BAKED french toast recipe
I made this this morning and it was yummy!!!! But, I would make some changes in the future.
I used Challah bread. I let it bake about 40 minutes at 375 because even though i only used about 95% of the milk/egg mixture, it was still mushy after 30 minutes.
I thought it was a bit too sweet. Next time i will probably not drizzle any maple syrup over the top before broiling it.
I added bananas in between the bread layers. DELICIOUS!!! What a great suggestion.
DS is only 15 months so no nuts yet but in the future I'd love to add some roasted pecans to this. It would add some nice crunch and flavor with the bananas.

The challah I buy is thinly sliced (from steinberg) so I did 3 layers.

Re: BAKED french toast recipe
I found a recipe on pintrest for one with blueberries. I think I am going to do a combination of the 2 (add mixed berries and bananas to this one) and use the blueberry syrup recipe from the other one for the top.
